The Opportunity:

Join the UCF Student Health Team as a Registered Nurse Specialist II and add to our dedication to provide excellent healthcare to the community that we serve.

At the Downtown Clinic, independently provide professional, culturally competent nursing care to patients, practicing under the oversight of a licensed healthcare provider; practice nursing in compliance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act; adhere to OSHA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Florida Department of Health guidelines; follow SHS policies; assist in all specialty areas to meet the needs of the clinic; provide primary-level leadership and supervision to the nursing staff as needed. This position will be primarily based in the Downtown clinic location but may be reassigned to any Student Health Services (SHS) location on a temporary or permanent basis to meet the operational needs of SHS.

Responsibilities:  

Direct Patient Care (Primary, Sports, International, Gynecology, Behavioral Health, After Hours, Specialty)

  • Nursing assessment in all patient care areas of the clinic.

  • Assist providers with exams, procedures, and treatments.

  • Administer medications (inhalation, injection, intravenous, oral, topical).

  • Collect samples/specimens.

  • Complete diagnostic tests as ordered (e.g. Electrocardiogram (EKG), Covid, Spirometry).

  • Provide patient education (e.g. medications, procedures, office visit, prevention, follow-up, self care).

  • Document as necessary (e.g. Electronic Health Records (EHR), logs).

  • Assist with Baker Acts and Marchman Acts.

  • Participate in drills and assigned annual trainings.

  • Participate in code response.

Leadership

  • Manage workflow of the patient care area.

  • Conduct staff probationary and performance appraisals and/or assessments as needed.

  • Demonstrate competence as a resource.

  • Participate in orientation for new staff members.

  • Participate in Peer Review.

  • Ensure compliance with UCF SHS policies.

  • Participate in UCF SHS policy review and revision as related to nursing.

  • Participate in writing and reviewing UCF SHS nursing team competencies.

  • Attend staff meetings.

  • Attend committee meetings as assigned.

  • Participate in nursing education.

  • Collaboration with ancillary departments.

  • Perform liaison activity between providers and patients.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in infection prevention: (e.g. clean rooms and clean multi-patient use items between use, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, safe injection practices).

  • Participate in inventory control.

  • Check all of the Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AED) in main SHS per protocol.

  • Assist in SHS lab services as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of clinic.

  • Timely completion of all required university, AHSC, and SHS trainings.

Minimum Qualifications:  

Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code and 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in college health or comparable busy primary care outpatient clinical experience.

  • Preference may be given to candidates with excellent communication skills and ability to relate well with staff and students in a college health environment.

  • Preference may be given to candidates with nursing management experience.

Work Schedule

Work hours are Monday through Friday, within the hours of 8:15am-6:30pm (8 hour shifts/40 hours a week). Occasional Saturdays may be required. Hours are subject to change due to SHS semester operating hours (i.e. Fall, Spring, Summer), provider schedules, special projects, after-hours clinics, and emergencies to fulfill the operational needs of the SHS clinic.
