Job Summary
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
Sign on eligibility – Candidate cannot be a current UC employee. Candidate cannot have been employed by the University during the 12 months prior to the proposed rehire date. Candidate position classification cannot be Senior Management Group (SMG). Candidate must meet any additional UC location eligibility requirements.
Department Description
Our Pediatric Hematology Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant unit (C6) is located on the 6th floor of the UCSF – Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. The overall unit is divided into two smaller units, a 24 bed Heme/Onc unit and a 13 bed Bone Marrow Transplant unit.
The Pediatric Hematology Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant unit (C6) specializes in the treatment of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and, Bone Marrow Transplant patients as well as in the care of several Pediatric Surgical sub specialties such as ENT and Urology. C6 provides patients with a myriad of treatment modalities such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy, Bone Marrow Transplant, and pain and palliative care. The patient acuity ranges from high to moderate with 4:1, 3:1, and 2:1 RN to patient ratios.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one year recent RN experience in Pediatrics or two years recent RN experience in Adult Med/Surg, or one year recent RN experience in Adult Oncology.
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California.
- Active American Heart Association CPR certification.
- Active American Heart Association PALS certification within six months of start date.
- APHON certification within six months of start date.
- This position would start on February 13th, 2023.
- The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN
- Two or more years of Pediatric Inpatient Oncology or BMT experience.
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Active American Heart Association PALS Certification within six months of start date
- APHON certification within 6 months of start date
