he UMHC-Sylvester – PACU Unit has an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Registered Nurse (Per Diem RN). The Per Diem RN:

  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Recovery department/patient care services as specific to the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform thorough pre-procedure and post procedure assessment that is system focused.

  • Demonstrates the ability to titrate intravenous medications according to the patient’s hemodynamic status.

  • Demonstrates the ability to care for the patient with continuous cardiac monitoring including rhythm identification, interpretation and follow through with appropriate intervention.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic agents, techniques and actions.

  • Demonstrates the ability to care for the population served: pre and post-op patient.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform rapid assessment differentiating between short-and long-term needs.

  • Verification of the operative procedure, operative site, surgeon and consents using Universal protocol: pre-procedure verification and site/side marking.

  • Assesses psychological status, including level of understanding, perception of surgery/procedure, and anxiety level.

  • Verification of patient allergies, NPO status, and whether or not patient has voided.

  • Checks the current history and physical, laboratory results, the execution of pre-procedure orders, and results of ordered diagnostic tests.

  • Communicates relevant findings to Physician/Anesthesiology/CRNA Assists and expedites the transfer of patients to and from the Recovery to In-Patient, PACU, ICU and or other facility Communicates to accepting staff via face-to-face Hands-Off Communication. Ensures patients’ privacy, comfort level and complaints are responded to immediately

  • Always remaining cognizant of meeting patients expectations. Engages and is committed to UHEALTH Service Pillars, AIDET and telephone etiquette.

  • Follows UHEALTH Standards of Behavior. Involves family member if pre and post procedure education.

  • Performs assessments and reassessments focusing on the physical and psychosocial health status of the patient in an ongoing timely and systematic manner.

  • Obtains baseline information utilized for the development of individualized patient plan of care.

  • Provides direct and indirect patient and family care to assess needs.

  • Facilitates/patient/family education with interdisciplinary team involvement.

  • Monitors patient’s progress against plan of care until discharge from designated patient care area.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify potential barriers and variances to the plan of care

  • Works effectively and cooperatively in groups/teams to ensure quality patient care. 

  • Communicates effective with manager and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Attempts to resolve patient/physicians and visitors complaints and refers unresolved issues to managers.

  • Demonstrate dependability/reliability by promptly reporting to work when scheduled.

  • Cross-trains to other nursing units and floats as necessary.

  • Follow hospital and nursing policies and procedures. Serves as mentor and role model Other duties as assigned.

  • Performs charge nurse duties as appropriate.

  • Floats to off-shifts/units, such as Holding/Pain, Evening and Night Shifts, as needed to ensure staffing is adequate and safe.

Minimum Qualifications:                                                                                                         

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred.  RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, BLS, ACLS and PALS required

  • CCRN/CPAN preferred

Experience:

  • 3 year  of relevant nursing experience;  Recovery, ICU, ER, or Telemetry nursing experience preferred
