Classification: Early Childhood Development Worker

Hourly Rate: $24.80 – $29.16, plus up to $2 per hr. Wage Enhancement for 2025 (condition of funding)

Reporting to: Manager of Children and Youth Services 

Type: Term position, Jan.2, 2025-Sept.15, 2025

35 hrs. per week

Benefits: 4% in lieu of, or accrued paid vacation, other paid leave

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services the Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for carrying out the Headstart Program in accordance with the regulations under the Child Care and Early Years Act. The RECE participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programs that facilitate a safe and stimulating learning atmosphere for the children and performs administrative functions as required.

Job Specific Responsibilities

• Direct service with children 18months – 5yrs
• Administrative functions as required
• Provides leadership to students and volunteers
• Performs Bus Monitor/Housekeeper duties when required
• Manages daily communications with families
• Ensuring safety of children at all times

Qualifications

• Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, in good standing
• Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
• Current CPR level C, Standard First Aid and Food Handlers Certification
• Health Assessment as per requirements in CCEYA and 2 Covid 19 vaccinations
• Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
• Working knowledge and use of major computer programs
• Strong knowledge of child development
• Effective at communicating and problem solving
