Job Description:

Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Program Specialist II. This role manages the day-to-day details of assuring the project activities, accountability and time lines are on track for the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) SAS Award.

Responsibilities include:

1) Communicating with project Principal Investigators (PIs), team leaders, students, staff, funding agency, advisory board, and other external partners

2) Monitoring progress towards all objectives

3) Supporting the leadership team in strategic planning, problem solving, and anticipating future issues

4) Ensuring team accomplishment of activities and outcomes

5) Assisting project director, leadership team, accountant, and communication specialist in building internal and external relationships with persons and organizations associated with the project.

Responsibilities of the position include oversight and management of Consortium for Cultivating Human And Naturally reGenerative Enterprises (CCHANGE), a $10 million, five-year project involving 5 institutions; leadership, advising, and evaluation as well as providing counsel to the project director regarding key organizational decisions; coordination of project activities and objectives across multiple states and organizations; evaluating and recommending change in actions related to subcontracts and other programming agreements; ensuring compliance with sponsor policies and procedures and monitoring sponsor deadlines; working with PI’s, graduate students, undergraduate researchers, and USDA to coordinate data management; assisting the project director in liaising with USDA, the Advisory Board, project evaluator, and other external partners; coordinating and managing with PIs the project’s annual full-team meeting and undergraduate training program; working with PIs to integrate research, extension, and education activities and objectives to achieve project milestones; and communicating project goals, outputs, outcomes, and impacts through diverse modes.

The successful candidate will be an effective team builder and have the capacity to help others work together to achieve shared goals. Good listening skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to synthesize and integrate diverse ideas and perspectives are also required to be successful in this position.

This is a regular with term appointment(fixed term) position with the opportunity for renewal.
