About the role

The Office of Student and University Planning are seeking a Modelling and Simulation Developer to join the team. The Modelling and Simulation Developer will develop, implement and maintain a suite of automated statistical models that support the requirements of the University. Through co-design with the Insights Analysts and Analytical Models & Ranking Specialist, this position is responsible for the delivery of automated models and simulations.

This position will amplify the current modelling capability, by ensuring all models and simulations are designed and built in the most appropriate statistical software, linking to varied data sets to improve frequency of assessment and provide the ability to review / refine the models based on changing attribute data.

As the Model and Simulation Developer, you will contribute to the Competitive Intelligence and Analytics (CIA’s) success through:

Customer Satisfaction
Gain an understanding of the Operational Flow and influencing data to provide proactive insights that drive decision making. Develop ‘Lever’ based Scenario and Benefit models to drive data-led investment.

Managing Workload
Assist the team in developing analytical models that are easily repeatable or automated to reduce manual workload.

Sourcing Information
Work with SMEs and Process Experts to ensure accurate variables are identified, and model outputs are delivered. Create Models that use automated or batch data loads to reduce manual handling of data.

Powerful Insights
Ensure models and simulations consider outputs of hypothesis tests and can be checked regularly for confidence. Work with the team to understand the business processes which could inform variables within your models.

Integrity & Quality
Regular check the variables within the Analytical models to ensure they are still providing the agreed-on level of confidence. Ensure that they are easily updated. All models should be documented in detail.

About you

The successful candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor of linguistics or significant experience highly regarded
  • 2-3 years of experience with text classification & segmentation
  • Experience with information extraction, summarisation and ranking 
  • Familiarity with NLP frameworks
  • Python programming skills
  • Project management experience desirable

This is a part-time (0.4 FTE), ongoing role based at Penrith campus with some flexibility to work from home. The successful candidate will work 2 days per week (14 hours) with the days to be negotiated.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 8 $49,318 to $54,749 p.a. (comprising Salary of $41,674 to $46,263 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).
