Our Schools teach an array of programs and degrees carefully structured to meet the demands of future industry and society and the University is ranked in the top two per cent of universities worldwide, with over 85 per cent of its assessed research rated at ‘World Standard’ or above. In 2022 and 2023, the University was placed 1st worldwide and in Australia for its commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings.
Our Strategic Plan stipulates that, starting in Western Sydney, our students will succeed, our research will have impact and our communities will thrive through our commitment to excellence, sustainability, equity, transformation and connectedness.
The mission is driven by four strong values:
Opportunity to be part of a sector leading program
Western Sydney University has established a sector-leading program to strengthen career pathways for casual academic staff by creating the equivalent of 150 full time positions by 1 March 2025. The WSU decasualisation program will play a significant role in reducing the level of insecure work in the Australian higher education sector.
With this in mind, the University is looking to recruit candidates it can invest in and develop over the long term, including training over the confirmation period to support candidates to retain stable, ongoing employment. On that basis, the University is looking for candidates who have full time working rights until at least 1 March 2025, in place at the time of application.
Successful candidates will undertake teaching, while also having the opportunity to develop a research portfolio and contribute to the University through governance activities at the School and/or University level.
Eligibility
Successful candidates will be subject to a two-year confirmation period and must provide evidence at the time of application that they:
- have been engaged as a casual academic for at least 2 teaching sessions within the previous 2 years at an Australian Higher Education institution; and
- hold or have submitted all requirements for a PhD or other relevant Level 10 AQF qualification; and
- have not previously held an ongoing position with an Australian Higher Education provider in the previous 3 years; and
- are an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or have full time working rights until at least 1 March 2025, in place at the time of application.
