Position Overview

Lead a cross-functional team that designs and supports the future of the North American Freight and Passenger Railroad Market. You will be working closely with subject matter experts, architects, developers, and testers to develop and support mission-critical systems that form the backbone of technologies like network optimization and an autonomous rail network.

We’re looking for self-driven individuals who are motivated to learn new things. You should have a strong sense of ownership through all stages of a project up to and including final customer review and sign-off.


  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering

  • 5+ years of successfully leading cross-functional teams

  • Deep understanding of design patterns and architectural styles, including experience with Event-Driven, Service-Based and Cloud-Native Architecture and Design

  • Experience with working in and leading agile development teams

  • Experience in designing and supporting mission critical systems

  • Experience in balancing and prioritizing work based on needs from multiple stakeholders

  • Communication skills, to talk with individuals and groups about their needs and ask the right questions

  • Listening skills, to understand what people say and to detect what they might be hesitant to say

  • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, establish appropriate tracing mechanisms and links between project artifacts, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements

  • Observational skills, to validate data obtained via other techniques and expose new areas for elicitation

  • Writing skills, to communicate information effectively to customers, marketing, managers, and technical staff

  • Organizational skills, to work with the vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to cope with rapidly changing information

  • Interpersonal skills, to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, product management, and engineering)

  • Modeling skills, to represent requirements information in graphical forms that augment textual representations in natural language, including using modeling languages already established in the development organization

Good to have:

  • Experience with Java, including JavaFX

  • Experience with JUnit and mocking frameworks (e.g., Mockito) • Experience with Angular and/or React

  • Experience with AMQP

  • Experience with git

  • Experience with Kubernetes and Docker

  • Experience in an agile environment

  • Experience in software testing

  • Experience with multinational teams

  • Experience with CI/CD

  • Experience in the Railroad Domain

  • Experience with CENELEC (EN 50128 / 50129)
