Duties and Responsibilities

I. Background The annual UN Country Results Report showcases the work of the Resident Coordinator and the UN’s system-wide contribution to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its primary audience rests at country level, and will be shared with and presented to the national Governments. It will also be shared with other development stakeholders at the country level, and will inform other mandated reports at regional and global levels, including the annual report of the Chair of the UNSDG to the Economic and Social Council on the UN Development Coordination Office. In 2024, the Mauritius Country Annual Results Report was recognized by the UN as the ‘Best Designed Report.’ Building on this achievement, the proofreading of the 2025 reports for Mauritius and Seychelles will ensure the same high standard of clarity, accuracy, and professionalism in language and presentation. II. Scope of Work The consultancy will support the UNRCO team to produce two Annual Results Reports 2025 one report for each country Mauritius and Seychelles. The consultant must ensure consistency of language, grammar, and style across both reports, while respecting UN branding and editorial guidelines. Particular attention should be given to clarity, readability, and alignment with accessibility standards (e.g., plain language, inclusive terminology). III. Duties & Responsibilities The consultant will report to RCO Head of Office and will work closely with the UNRCO Communication Officer. The consultant is expected to: (a) Proofread the two draft reports (up to 3 rounds of edits per report) following estimated timeline: – 06 March 2026 – 20 March 2026 – 26 March 2026 (b) Support the UNRCO team to deliver the final Annual Results Reports by 30 March 2026. (c) All work should be completed in consultation with the Communications Officer and Strategic Planner. (d) Please note all deadlines are by close of business Mauritius Time. (d) Proofreading should cover grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency of terminology, formatting, and adherence to UN style guide. The consultant should also flag any unclear or ambiguous phrasing for revision. IV. Report formats (a) Each report should focus on people from start to finish, while linking them to strategic outcomes and the UNDS reform; (b) Each report should not exceed 25 pages double-sided (total of 50 pages), including annexes; (c) The results and content of each report should address various target audiences, highlighting results and data for transparency and accountability to a wider audience; (d) The Report should follow the following template: • Report cover/ title • Foreword by Resident Coordinator • UN Country Team • Key Development Partners of the UN development system in the country. • Key Development Trends • UN Support to National Priorities • UNCT Key Focus for 2026 • Back cover with webpage / social media information. (e) Proofreader should ensure that all sections are coherent, logically structured, and free of duplication or inconsistencies.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Communications/English, strategic planning, development studies, international relations, social sciences, humanities, economics, law or related fields is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in editing and/or proofreading situation analysis, strategic planning documents and reports concerning national planning processes is required. Working experience on economic development and planning, and institutional strengthening is desirable. Experience working with international organizations, preferably the UN system, is desirable. Experience in writing reports, good organizational and communication skills to interact with people is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English is required.
