Position Summary Information

Advertisement The Public Health department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position on a nine month, tenure track contract. This position is scheduled to begin in the Fall term of 2023.
The Public Health program was created to be aligned with the vision and mission of the institution, emphasizing global perspectives, diversity, and social justice. The program’s vision is a world where underserved communities, locally and abroad have achieved health equity. St. Catherine’s public health bachelor degree programs were the first undergraduate programs in Minnesota to receive accreditation from The Council on Education for Public Health in both the College for Women and College for Adults.
Responsibilities:

  • Teach the equivalent of six undergraduate courses during the academic year across hybrid, in-person and online environments. May teach courses at the graduate level on occasion.
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance
    Support departmental advising of undergraduate students and contribute to department, School of Health and university service and committee work.
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities, affirming the worth and preserving the dignity of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Develop and pursue an innovative and respected program of research in their area of interest and expertise to advance the discipline and inform classroom teaching. Through this, collaborate with undergraduate students in research.
  • Designs, teaches, evaluates and revises course content to reflect evidence-based practice and most current knowledge in the field.
    Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.
  • Effectively contribute to the highly collaborative work of the Department and attend and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities such as faculty/staff workshops and departmental trainings
  • Communicate frequently with the department leaders and/or coordinators for updates or changing course information.
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching, research, service and accomplishments.

People with experience and teaching / research interests in social epidemiology, health promotion and health education, community health, and health communication are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral level degree in Public Health or closely related field
  • Experience teaching college-level students or working as a graduate teaching assistant in public health or a closely related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching courses in behavioral health education and theory; health promotion, and health communication
  • Experience teaching and conducting research with a focus on social justice, global and local populations, and reducing health inequities
  • Experience with online and hybrid instruction of college-level courses
  • Experience working with colleagues and/or students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ages and abilities
