Aston Business School is triple accredited (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA).  In the 2021 REF almost four-fifths of Aston University’s research is either ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent.  Aston has excellent teaching (awarded a Gold rating in the 2016/17 TEF) and business engagement (awarded the Small Business Charter Gold Award).  In 2020 we were the Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year.  We are again shortlisted for the University of the Year in 2021-22.

The Work and Organisation Department hosts three main clusters – HRM, Organisational Behaviour/Work Psychology and Social Responsibility and Sustainability.  We are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated individual, either focused on HRM or OB/Work Psychology.  Though you will contribute to the Department’s teaching and enterprise activities (for this post teaching could be in research methods), we welcome applications from those who will increase the research capacity of the department.

The Department is developing a new research group focused on healthy work and workplaces, underpinned by responsible and sustainable transformation.  We are keen to discuss how your new ideas will strengthen our research profile.

To support you, there is a thriving research culture in the Department, which has a strong reputation for being rigorous and relevant.  Colleagues have impressive publication records, are involved in the editing of leading journals and regularly win competitive grants.  We support participation in international conferences and supervision of research students via the Dean’s scholarships.

You should possess a good first degree, a doctorate in a relevant discipline, an established research profile with a significant body of internationally excellent publications in either HRM or OB/Work Psychology-related journals, as well as a developed international network.  You must be experienced in securing and leading funding from different sources which deliver impact, and in undertaking effective doctoral research supervision.   You should have an effective and innovative teaching practice at all levels, and at least Fellowship of the HEA (or equivalent).  Chartered membership of the CIPD/BPS, industry experience and possession of entrepreneurial skills are highly desirable.  For OB/Work Psychologists, being a Chartered Occupational Psychologist is especially welcome, or a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) as a minimum.

The post-holders will report to the Head of Department and the Head of School.

For informal discussions relating to this post please contact the Head of Department, Professor Michael Butler.   E-mail Michael (m.j.r.butler@aston.ac.uk) or Ravinder Kalsi (r.k.kalsi@aston.ac.uk) to arrange a discussion.

As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy.
