Qualitative research/Study on practices and needs of civil society organizations

Background:

JustPeace is seeking a researcher to conduct qualitative research with partner organizations as part of its International Peacebuilding Practitioners project. The project aims to establish an active and sustainable network of civil society organizations (CSOs) from the Global South for mutual exchange, learning, and support. As a foundation for this endeavor, the research will involve in-depth interviews with colleagues from partner organizations to gather data on practices, methods, challenges, and needs related to their work and contexts as well as their expectations and capacities in relation to the intended network establishment. The findings will serve as a foundation for the first network meeting and guide discussions on the network’s objectives, formats, and future activities. Scope of Work:

  • Developing and implementing a research strategy to collect data on
    • (1) The practices, methods, challenges and needs of JustPeace’s partner organizations.
    • (2) Their expectations and capacities relative to the intended network establishment.
  • Methods: Primarily qualitative research, mainly based on interviews (online, 8-14 interviews) and questionnaires.
  • Analyzing and summarizing the collected data in a comprehensive report (length around 20 to 40 pages).
  • Presenting and discussing the findings and options for the network development with the JustPeace project team.

Timeline:

  • Application Deadline: November 5, 2024
  • Contract Start Date: November 11, 2024
  • Submission of Report: December 31, 2024

Contract & Remuneration:

  • The selected researcher will be engaged under a contract for work and services (“Werkvertrag”).
  • The total remuneration is 4,500 Euros (all-inclusive). Payment may be divided into installments based on agreed-upon deliverables, to be specified in the contract.

Candidate Profile:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, conflict studies, international relations, or related areas).
  • Strong knowledge of social research methodologies and proven experience in qualitative research.
  • General knowledge of postcolonial/decolonial theory and the field of international development cooperation.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with NGOs and local/international peacebuilding is desirable.
