An exciting opportunity is available for a qualitative researcher to work on a mixed-methods feasibility study exploring the views of primary care clinicians and patients towards a new diagnostic test designed to improve the use of antibiotics for chest infections. It is hoped that this new test may be a valuable tool in the fight against antibiotic resistance. The study is funded by the School of Primary Care Research.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the qualitative aspects of the study, including participant recruitment, carrying out and analysing qualitative interviews, and writing up study reports. You will work closely alongside a multi-disciplinary team (including a trial manager) from the University of Southampton Primary Care Research Centre.

Applicants will have an in-depth understanding of qualitative methods, usually gained through a relevant PhD, or other research experience, normally supported by a relevant postgraduate degree. Successful applicants will have demonstrated their ability to work independently and efficiently in a research context,and will have excellent written English skills with attention to detail. Experience of using qualitative analysis software such as NVivo would be an advantage.
