Primary Purpose of Position This position serves as a Purchasing Specialist – with responsibility for the timely and cost-effective acquisition of commodities, equipment, and services for UNC Charlotte within established purchasing procedures and applicable laws.
Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; or Associate’s degree and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with at least two years of purchasing experience; or a two-year associate degree with four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Job Duties
  • Review daily purchase requests to ensure compliance with University policies and state procurement laws.
  • Compile formal solicitation documents.
  • Review and negotiate contracts with particular emphasis on terms & conditions.
  • Provide ongoing, informal training on purchasing procedures to campus users as questions or issues arise.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and the ability to professionally and respectfully interact with a wide range of people across the campus.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Purchasing Agent/Buyer experience within the Government or University environment.
  • Experience with the Banner ERP system and Jaggaer (formerly SciQuest) e-procurement platform.
  • Contract review/negotiation experience.
  • Experience in compiling formal solicitation documents.
