Projects of the research group of the Universitat Jaume I: Institute for Advanced Materials. Profile 23PS01 postdocmeasure.

 

Offer description

A postdoctoral position is offered at the Institute for Advanced Materials (INAM; www.inam.uji.es ) of the University Jaume I in the framework of the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant project “Perovskite Spiking Neurons for Intelligent Networks” PEROSPIKER under the direction of Professor Juan Bisquert.

The project PEROSPIKER focusses on building neurons, synapses and operating neural networks with halide perovskites and organic materials. The research involves the investigation of device physics for the functional properties of neurons and synapses, and the fabrication of the material elements with the required properties. The Project aims to develop compact miniature material elements that will emulate closely the complex dynamic behaviour of neurons and synapses, to form Spiking Neural Networks with substantial reduction in footprint, complexity and energy cost for perception, learning and computation. We will show visual object recognition from spiking data provided by a spiking retina by advanced artificial neurons and dynamic synapses.

Our approach is to unite basic and applied science in order to pursue this goal. Our team gathers and relies upon experts in chemistry (synthesis, device making, sub microscale fabrication), physics (device properties, impedance spectroscopy, time transient response) and engineering (especially materials synthesis/properties/processing, electrical engineering, chemical engineering). The project requires a multidisciplinary approach from the synthesis of lead-free perovskites, their coupling with protective and catalytic layers, to the structural, chemical and optoelectronic characterisation of the materials as well as the functional and mechanistic understanding of devices.

Skills/Qualifications

Experience will be required in:

• In design of the set-up of opto/electrical measurements and measurement programming (Laview, Python), electrical and optoelectronic measurements in time and frequency domain.

• The realization of physical models with differential equations and the numerical resolution of problems in space and time, and the realization of measurement simulations with Matlab.

• The interpretation of measurements and the realization of models of relevant allied fields such as those that study transport phenomena, transistors, electrical engineering, electronics, photovoltaics, electrochemistry.

Specific Requirements

We are looking for an expert in device physics, specialized in advanced methods of electrical characterization such as impedance spectroscopy or transient response over time with experience in electrical modeling and simulation.

The candidate will be in charge of programming the optical and electrical measurements of neural networks and neuromorphic systems, carrying out the measurements, planning experiments and the physical interpretation of the measurement results.

The candidate will directly supervise at least one doctoral student and advise the other members of the group, will participate in discussions to agree on the objectives of their work and will supervise their daily activity in the laboratory. Her work will be directly supervised by Professor Juan Bisquert
