Offer Description

Resolution of the Vice-Rector for Research of the Universitat Jaume I, announcing a public call to create a pool of candidates to fill vacancies for research staff in this organisation (junior research staff). Projects of the research group of the Universitat Jaume I: Institute for Advanced Materials. Profile 23PS02 postdocfabrication.

Offer description

A postdoctoral position is offered at the Institute for Advanced Materials (INAM; ) of the University Jaume I in the framework of the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant project “Perovskite Spiking Neurons for Intelligent Networks” PEROSPIKER under the direction of Professor Juan Bisquert.

The project PEROSPIKER focusses on building neurons, synapses and operating neural networks with halide perovskites and organic materials. The research involves the investigation of device physics for the functional properties of neurons and synapses, and the fabrication of the material elements with the required properties. The Project aims to develop compact miniature material elements that will emulate closely the complex dynamic behaviour of neurons and synapses, to form Spiking Neural Networks with substantial reduction in footprint, complexity and energy cost for perception, learning and computation. We will show visual object recognition from spiking data provided by a spiking retina by advanced artificial neurons and dynamic synapses.

Our approach is to unite basic and applied science in order to pursue this goal. Our team gathers and relies upon experts in chemistry (synthesis, device making, sub microscale fabrication), physics (device properties, impedance spectroscopy, time transient response) and engineering (especially materials synthesis/properties/processing, electrical engineering, chemical engineering). The project requires a multidisciplinary approach from the synthesis of lead-free perovskites, their coupling with protective and catalytic layers, to the structural, chemical and optoelectronic characterisation of the materials as well as the functional and mechanistic understanding of devices.

Submission of applications

The call will be published in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Autonomous Government (DOGV) and on the Official Noticeboard of the Universitat Jaume I (TAO-UJI), in the category “Convocatorias PI” [Calls for researchers]. The deadline for submission of applications is 10 working days as of the day following the publication of this call in the DOGV.

Applications must be submitted through the online registry:

In order to do so, candidates must have a UJI corporate account, a digital certificate containing an electronic signature. Anyone who does not have a UJI corporate account must register for one on the University website at: (Tools > Intranet IGLU).

The application must include the following:

In the section I STATE, literally:

“That the details provided in my application are true and that I meet the conditions for admission to the public service and the specific requirements set out herein”

In the section I REQUEST, literally:

“Admission to the selection process to create, through a simplified procedure, a pool of candidates to fill vacancies for research-related personnel. Code: 20750

To the attention of: Human Resources Service.

The following documents must be submitted as separate PDF files attached to the online application:

  • Identity document (DNI, NIE, passport, etc.).
  • Relevant degree certificate and the corresponding academic transcript.
  • Other documents required in the call.
  • Curriculum vitae showing the merits eligible for consideration in the appendix.

Merits that are eligible for consideration must be accompanied by relevant supporting documents (merits that are not submitted with such documents before the deadline for submission of applications will not be considered).

We are looking for a person with experience in fundamental methods for the preparation of solar cells and memristors, and their integration in neural networks and with sensory devices.

The person will be in charge of the formulation of lead-free perovskite and organic semiconductor inks and the selection of contact layers and dampers to make devices of different scales with the programmed objectives of functionality and stability.

The individual will also be in charge of crossbar die fabrication, miniaturization of contacts to a layout size of 1×1 microns^2 using lithography methods.

The candidate will directly supervise at least one doctoral student and advise the other members of the group, will participate in discussions to agree on the objectives of their work and will supervise their daily activity in the laboratory. Her work will be directly supervised by Professor Juan Bisquert.

Specific Requirements

Experience will be required in:

• The perovskite formulation of halides or inks and a good understanding of the effect of electronic contacts for the realization of optoelectronic devices.

• The realization of memristor devices with perovskites or related materials.

• The design and manufacture of crossbar matrices for the investigation of neural networks and neuromorphic systems will be very advantageous, as well as photolithography.

It will be valued positively:

• Fluent in English

• Ability to autonomously prepare scientific manuscripts.

• Ability to supervise doctoral students.

• Demonstrated ability to assume ownership and responsibility for projects.

• Excellent publication history.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Proven teamwork experience and effective collaboration skills.
