Description

The Department of Teaching & Learning at Temple is seeking to hire a part-time Research Associate to provide research support for science education initiatives in Philadelphia. The Research Associate will be working with a project to support middle and high school students in learning about how to determine if a source of information is reliable and how to evaluate competing claims to judge which is more scientifically plausible by looking at evidence.

The Research Associate will primarily focus on data entry, interview transcription, cleaning of data, and preliminary data analysis for a research project involving middle and high school science instruction. Research support tasks may also include assisting with the preparation of journal manuscripts, outfacing reports, and conference presentations. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience:
BA/BS in education, social sciences, science education, Earth/space sciences, or related field and at least 3 years of teaching experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics
* Strong analytical, interpersonal, record-keeping, organizational, and time management skills
* Capable of data analyses in Excel
* Data visualization skills 
* Proactively seek assistance when needed
* Conscientious, reliable, and flexible
* Ability to work independently as well as with various teams of people
* Training and understanding of federal and state confidentiality requirements and human subjects protection rules for program evaluation research

Preferred:
* Master’s Degree in education, science education, or related field
* Experience analyzing education data
* Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, Mplus, etc.) 
* Preferred mixed-methods experience and knowledge of qualitative analysis software (e.g., AtlasTi, Dedoose)

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
