Posting Summary Rutgers University-Camden seeks a part time Psychologist/Substance Abuse counselor who will report to the Health Services Director. Provides substance abuse counseling, assessment, education and consultation for students referred for treatment and mandatory referral clearance process. Consult with clinical, medical and campus staff as needed. Provides direct psychological counseling services to university students, individually and in groups; provides diagnosis; assesses counseling and treatment needs; conducts short term psychotherapy; collaborates and makes referrals to appropriate medical staff for medication; and assists and coordinates hospitalization and outpatient treatment discharge plans. Assists with assessment and crisis intervention for students who are seen on an emergency basis.
Performs professional work that requires specialized general knowledge of substance abuse counseling and psychotherapy; and a solid understanding, use, and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of area of specialization within addictions, rehabilitation, recovery and treatment, psychology, counseling, or clinical psychology; must function as a team player in a multidisciplinary staff; excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
COVID-19 Immunization Requirement Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position requires a fully on-site work arrangement and may be eligible for a compressed workweek or a flex workday schedule.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Also requires a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative and/or supervisory function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

Requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education/experience in the discipline. A master’s degree in a specialized discipline may be required, particularly in research, project management or managerial positions. Also requires a minimum of five years experience and/or increasing functional responsibility in a leadership/managerial role. With a master’s degree requirement, a minimum of three years of related experience is acceptable. Excellent communication skills and computer literacy.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Candidates must have completed a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program, or an MSW from an accredited institution or be licensed as a professional counselor. They must demonstrate ability to work with a diverse student population, competence in substance abuse and psychological assessment, and knowledge of developmental issues of college students. The ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff is required.
