The Kubicek LabThe Kubicek laboratory is working on the role of chromatin in the definition of cell types and cell states, and the use of chemistry to modulate epigenetic states. In JDRF funded projects, we are studying the role of the transcription factor ARX and of protein mannosylation on pancreatic alpha cell identity. The Kubicek laboratory has an extensive track record in pancreatic endocrine biology, including the identification of multiple chemical and genetic factors impacting islet cell identity (Enders Nat Communs 2023, Casteels Cell Rep 2022, Casteels Mol. Metab 2021, Li Cell 2017) and implementing the first single-cell transcriptomics in primary human pancreatic islets (Li et. al EMBO Rep. 2016, Marquina Sanchez et al. Genome Biol. 2020). In addition, the laboratory studies epigenetic control in cancer (Schick, Grosche, Kohl et al. Nat Genet 2021, Sdelci et al. Nat Genet 2019, Schick et al. Nat Genet 2019), and studies protein dynamics in live cells (Reicher, Reinis et al. Nat Cell Biol 2024, Reicher et al. Genome Res 2020). Furthermore, the laboratory hosts the Molecular Discovery Platform, a unique chemical screening infrastructure with a collection of
10,000 small molecules and proteomics and metabolomics platforms. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in an innovative research environment and collaborate closely with other groups at CeMM.About the InstituteCeMM is an international research institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a founding member of EU-LIFE. The mission of CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is to achieve maximum scientific innovation in molecular medicine to improve healthcare. At CeMM, an international and creative team of scientists and medical doctors pursues free-minded basic life science research in a large and vibrant hospital environment of outstanding medical tradition and practice.
