Project manager of Horizon Europe projects

DTU Aqua conducts research, provides advice, educates at university level and contributes to innovation in sustainable exploitation and management of aquatic resources. The section for Oceans and Arctic is focused on research in the marine environment. The research spectrum is broad covering marine ecology, oceanography, observation technology and the Arctic. We work with sustainability in the ocean and have focus on the UN Ocean Decade.

DTU Aqua invites applications for a post as administrative research manager of Horizon Europe projects in the Section for Oceans and Arctic. The section has been successful in obtaining large EU projects including coordinator and major partner roles, and therefore we need someone who can support the scientific leaders on this task making the projects run uniformly and smoothly according to EU regulations and DTU administration. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment including technicians, engineers, and biologists, and be included in a section which is both diverse and lively.

We expect you to have a background in research and that you are able to work in diverse teams keeping overview of the projects adhering to application formats, communicating with project partners on administrative issues (pre- and post- grant), participating in meetings and assisting with reporting and budget follow-ups.

The position is in the section for Oceans and Arctic, and you will refer to the head of section, but you will also have a close collaboration with our research secretariat and assist them in their work on future calls.

The job

  • You will be responsible for the administrative management of a number of EU projects where researchers in the section are either coordinator or partner
  • You will assist in budgeting EU projects in collaboration with the project economist, and in contracts in collaboration with the legal office at DTU
  • You will assist in fundraising for research infrastructures in ongoing and future projects

Qualifications

  • A relevant education at minimum MSc level preferably within technical or natural science
  • Experience in pre- and post- grant assistance to scientists; specifically routine in assisting in making applications to and administrating projects within the EU Framework is required
  • Experience with other national and international funding agencies is an advantage
  • Experiences with international project management and formal qualifications in project management an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to facility collaboration as well as take responsibility and manage multiple projects and activities in a structured way is a must
  • You are motivated by assisting others and making things work smoothly in a sometime hectic working environment
  • You are able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • You work with attention to detail and following work through to completion.
  • You are fluent in English and in Danish.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.

The Section for Oceans and Arctic covers a wide research spectrum from oceanography, population ecology, observation technology and the Arctic. The research into oceanography integrates biological, physical and chemical parameters’ interactions in the ocean, ranging from individual plankton to regional seas. We focus on understanding the key processes that govern the structure and function of pelagic food webs, as well as climate and ecosystem interactions. The research in population ecology establishes how processes affecting individuals shape populations and ecosystems.

The purpose of DTU Aqua is to provide research, advice and education at the highest international level within the sustainable exploitation of living marine and freshwater resources, the biology of aquatic organisms and the dynamics of ecosystems as well as their integration in ecosystem-based management. DTU Aqua has 260 employees, of whom a third are scientific staff. The other employees are assistant biologists, laboratory technicians, IT employees, administrative staff, ship’s crew, student assistants etc. The institute is organized into eight scientific sections which carry out the research, educational and advisory activities. In addition, the institute has a number of scientific and administrative support functions, including the research vessel DANA. DTU Aqua has employees in Lyngby, Silkeborg, Nykøbing Mors and Hirtshals as well as on Dana.
