What we want

The Project Manager II, under general supervision, is responsible for managing project activities including developing, implementing, tracking budgets, tracking timelines and deliverables, and providing periodic evaluations and reports for projects that are generally medium in scope. The Project Manager II is also responsible for the management and coordination of the custodial contract, contractor parking on campus, creating work orders through AggieWorks, and assisting unit manager with campus construction coordination and management of the unit. This position will also serve as second in command for the Parking Projects unit and as backup in the Project Manager III’s absence.  The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability as stated above. Salary Range: $58,000.00 – $68,000.00.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of related experience in construction project management including three years of supervisory experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate leadership ability
  • Ability to identify work priorities
  • Advanced skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to function without perceivable supervision
  • Ability to accomplish objectives through the development and utilization of personnel

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Required to work overtime, weekends, occasional holidays, and all home football games
  • Ability to travel to various locations both on and off campus which may require the use of a university vehicle

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Five years supervisory experience
  • Contract writing experience
  • Traffic controls experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and planning of traffic control
  • Knowledge of locations on campus such as buildings, parking lots and streets

Responsibilities:

  • Construction Projects – Assists the manager in defining project mission and vision. Manages campus construction projects involving Transportation Services to include attending meetings with TAMU Facility Management, SSC Environmental Design and Construction, and TAMU FP&C, monitoring arrangements agreed upon for laydown areas, timelines, etc. to ensure compliance by all parties. Attends pre-construction meetings. Assists with matters to include contractor parking on campus, creates work orders through AggieWorks, and assists with the coordination of construction renovation and repairs for Transportation Services. Monitors the unit’s budget and assists the manager in the preparation of the annual budget and long range planning activities as required. Serves as backup for the manager in his absence for all construction related projects as well as management of the unit.
  • Custodial Contract and Services – Manages and coordinates the custodial services contract. Oversees the personnel responsible for generating inspections to ensure that the custodial contractor is responsible for cleaning garages and acting in a responsible manner. Contacts University Police dispatch as needed with vandalism complaints. Relays complaints from Transportation Services employees and others regarding cleaning services to the custodial crew supervisor and ensures complaints are resolved in a timely manner. Tracks the contractor’s effort as part of an overall strategy to provide better service and a cleaner environment to our customers of garages and parking structures. Schedules intensified cleaning with custodial contractor during break periods. Monitors property maintenance issues to ensure they have been completed with Parking Projects and Maintenance Unit and/or SSC Environmental Design and Construction (EDCS). Contacts SSC EDCS dispatch as needed regarding preventative maintenance issues. Meets with area manager of the cleaning contractor to ensure the cleaning process meets the expectations of Transportation Services. Develops a comprehensive plan for cleaning and maintaining garages and parking structures which will include a 365-day schedule to be used as a tool to plan for future activity and improvements in processes as well as to track actual cleaning effort.
  • Supervision – Selects, orients, trains, motivates and retains staff capable of meeting current and projected human resource needs for the unit. Plans, schedules and monitors staff, including responsibility for coordinating/assigning and scheduling leave. Also charged with ensuring adequate staffing for meeting unit goals to include interviewing and hiring; disciplinary actions and terminations, probationary reviews and annual evaluations. Provides employees with operational feedback. Responsible for approving time worked and leave requests for full-time employees.
  • Fiscal – Assists the Manager in the formulation, interpretation and implementation of departmental and unit goals, objectives, and policies to ensure delivery of quality services. Assists as the property accountability officer for the unit. Responsible for managing audit controls within unit.
  • Liaison – Represents the department on committees and at meetings around the campus.
  • Administration – Promotes safety, to assure that safety policies and procedures are followed by staff in the unit.
  • Departmental Objectives/Customer Service – Transportation Services is committed to providing courteous, responsive, quality service to our customers by fostering a respectful, positive, and welcoming environment for all. Employees are responsible for the following: representing the department to internal and external customers by actively supporting diversity; maintaining 100% on time compliance with all university required training for all employees; approving time worked and requesting appropriate leave in a timely manner; reading and responding to e-mail; reviewing/reading information listed on the department intranet; performing assigned tasks in a safe manner and utilizing personal protective items/equipment as appropriate or instructed by supervisor or department; reporting unsafe actions or conditions to supervisor immediately and supporting and following unit/department safety guidelines, practices and policies. Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc. Other duties as assigned.
