Job Description

The individual in this position would join a team of highly motivated and skilled professionals who are leading Virginia Tech’s analytics and institutional effectiveness strategy. Through data, this team creates an operational and long-term strategy for Virginia Tech’s success as an academic institution. The individual in this position would provide project management support for AIE’s data-centered initiatives.
The project manager, will manage AIE’s data governance planning, coordinate departmental projects and schedules, and manage data governance-related initiatives. This includes working as a liaison between data owners, stewards, and business units to improve business processes and the quality of data within the systems. In addition, the person in this position would establish best practices and maintain taxonomies, glossaries, and directories as well as develop rules for their use. Working with the data literacy committee, create data literacy and quality programs to establish knowledge management and promote a data-driven culture at Virginia Tech will be key aspects of this position.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and project management experience equivalent to a graduate level degree OR Master’s degree and relevant experience.
• Manage project conflicts, challenges, and dynamic business requirements to keep operations running efficiently
• Must be able to multi-task
• Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal), including the ability to explain technical concepts to a lay audience
• Ability to work well in a diverse, collegial, and consultative team environment
• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and transparent manner

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an appropriate discipline/field
• Project Manager Certification preferred
• Experience in technical writing and document editing
