Project Manager (2 Posts Available)

The Henry Royce Institute (Royce), an EPSRC-funded national institute, supports advanced materials research and innovation. With its Hub at The University of Manchester, the Institute has spokes at ten Partner and Associate organisations: the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford, Cranfield, Strathclyde and Imperial College London, as well as at the UK Atomic Energy Authority and National Nuclear Laboratory. Royce, driven by a vision of ‘advanced materials for a sustainable society’, supports the UK in growing its world-leading research and innovation through:

  • Enabling national materials research, collaboration, fore-sighting and strategy
  • Providing access to world-leading facilities and research expertise
  • Catalysing industrial collaboration and accelerating translation
  • Fostering materials science skills development, innovation, training and outreach

The Henry Royce Institute is seeking two Project Managers to provide high quality, effective project management support across a range of internally and externally facing projects.  As an example, Royce has established two significant funding programmes: Industrial Collaboration Programme , (ICP) and Materials Challenge Accelerator Programme (MCAP), and post holders will take responsibility for managing aspects of these programmes, including financial management, monitoring and reporting.  In addition, the post holders will play a key role in further developing and implementing the application and award processes, and will work closely with members of the Research and Business Engagement team and the wider Royce Hub team.

Royce is an evolving, dynamic organisation and the appointees will therefore be expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet its developing needs. The post-holders will be part of the Projects team which supports a wide range of  activities across Royce, and are responsible for a portfolio of both internal and external projects, covering operational processes and long-term £m research grants. A key part of their role involves liaising with stakeholders from across Royce Partner/Associate organisations as well as at the Hub in Manchester.

You will have excellent project management skills, and experience of co-ordinating and managing research grant applications/funding bids, preferably in a university environment. You will have a track record of working on complex, multi-disciplinary projects with multiple partners, and will have experience of managing processes involving numerous stakeholders. You will be comfortable dealing with competing priorities, working accurately and precisely to deliver to strict deadlines.  Excellent organisational and time-management skills are essential.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
