Project Management Officer – Remote

Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information; conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios; and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

This position will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan SPARK27, in alignment with the PRINCE2 project management methodology. This position is part of the Program Management Director’s (PMD) Office but will work closely with various departments, providing hands-on assistance with project management products, reporting, risk tracking, and interdepartmental coordination.

This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service.

Specific roles and responsibilities

The Project Management Officerwill be responsible for the following:

Project Management Support:

  • Prepare and maintain project management products (e.g., project briefs, risk registers, communication management approaches, Gantt charts) in collaboration with teams.
  • Ensure PRINCE2 project management practices, tools, and templates are consistently applied across the organization.
  • Work closely with the PMD team and departmental representatives to implement and maintain project workflows in Asana.
  • Coordinate with departments on a daily basis to ensure proper and timely project management implementation.
  • Draft and update project documentation based on discussions with teams, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Identify and document project risks and lessons learned in the relevant registers, ensuring they are communicated to the Risk Management Committee.
  • Escalate critical risks and issues to the appropriate stakeholders as needed.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, capture meeting notes, and follow up on action items to ensure progress and accountability.
  • Track project progress, including KPI monitoring, and prepare periodic reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of donor reports, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on project performance to inform future planning and decision-making.

Annual Planning and SPARK27 Implementation:

  • Support the PMD Office with annual planning processes, including the preparation of work plans, project timelines, and budgets.
  • Facilitate collaboration between departments and executive leadership to ensure the successful implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between the executives, department heads, and PMD Office to ensure that project deliverables are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Schedule and organize project-related meetings, including those linked to strategic plan implementation.

Miscellaneous:

  • Support with managing priorities and projects where necessary across all departments.
  • Facilitate the implementation of other business-as-usual activities, including Risk Management, support of the Ethics Committee, etc.
  • Other tasks as necessary.

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience working in the nonprofit sector and supporting administration, strategic and/or annual planning or development in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the project management cycle; PRINCE2 qualification or similar is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the International Relations and world politics field is highly desirable.
  • Experience using a project management tool, such as Asana, is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating teams of low to medium size and complexity throughout the full project cycle.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Project Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field (desirable).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, multitasking.
  • Proficient with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
