The opportunity
Content Management and Preservation is looking for a Project Lead to join our Metadata Management team in Toronto to lead and coordinate projects that optimize the flow of content to audiences by improving the quality and consistency of metadata throughout the content life-cycle through optimization initiatives and governance practices.
Reporting to the Manager of Metadata Governance, you will apply metadata standards to improve information architecture, and related systems and processes. You will collaborate with stakeholders in technology solutions and support, and client groups, to ensure that our metadata practices and systems are performing optimally. You will also assist in socializing and implementing metadata governance practices for a variety of systems and teams.
Better metadata is essential to enhancing the audience experience on digital platforms, allowing us to better tailor our content offering to targeted user segments and gain valuable insights into audience behaviour. In order to continuously improve the quality of our metadata we need to be rigorous in our efforts to govern the application and flow of metadata.
Your role
In this role, you will lead efforts with stakeholders within the organization to define business requirements, identify opportunities where metadata can play a role in improving business processes and audience experience.
You will coordinate the building of cross-functional teams, facilitate the devising of shared objectives and identification of key results.
You will promote team collaboration, motivate, coach and remove barriers for success. You will promote and provide opportunities for the implementation of ongoing metadata governance practices.
Our content production and presentation environment is composed of many platforms and systems supported by a number of functional groups within the organization. The ability to collaborate with these teams with the aim of helping to align our collective efforts is key to succeeding in this role.
You will be expected to gather business requirements through a variety of facilitation methods and use these requirements to guide the development of solutions to optimize metadata flow and create governance models that will be effective and flexible.
Key Tasks:
Advises, guides and provides support in project planning or development.
Assesses feasibility, identifies risks, and recommends solutions that take into account the organizational objectives and policies.
Evaluates time and resources required in conjunction with stakeholders.
Guides the definition of project metrics with stakeholders, and validates the various stages of development of the project in order to ensure business objectives are met.
Facilitates and documents the post-mortem review, evaluates project outcomes and processes, and provides recommendations for future endeavours.
Assumes responsibility for all required communication, including regular progress reports, and flags issues for escalation as appropriate.
Respects best practices in project management in order to strengthen standards of quality and productivity.
Ensures processes are in place to track actual progress against initial expectations throughout the various stages of the project.
Ensures that each project is set up with considerations for the establishment of ongoing metadata governance
Identifies intersections between individual projects and provides opportunities for collaboration and communication of shared activities.
Qualifications – External
Who you are:
Graduate degree in Information Science, or equivalent.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in information management in the media environment.
Experience in process management and process improvement.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in French is an asset.
Knowledge and experience with change management practices are a must for this role, as is the ability to manage priorities and schedules in order to move initiatives forward and meet established targets.
You leverage your subject-matter expertise, technical knowledge, facilitation and communication skills to bring members of various functional groups together to find the optimal solution.
You understand that every client has different needs and while some solutions are obvious, others require research and creativity to bring them to light.
The ideal candidate would also possess an Information Science background. You should bring a solid understanding of taxonomies, ontologies, semantics, and metadata schema.
You have an interest in keeping abreast of continually evolving best practices in this field and how those can be applied in the media industry.
