Description
We are seeking a full-time Project Coordinator (i.e., Research Program Manager) with an interest in agricultural conservation and excellent communication, organization, and facilitation skills to lead a team of professionals working on development of the CRP Menu Tool and to engage closely with private landowners and state/federal agency staff in a scientific co-production framework. This will be a 2-year project that will involve 2 rounds of farmer and agency workshops in 3 states (24 workshops total) that will solicit information on priorities for CRP enrollment and needs for an effective decision support system in the CRP Menu Tool. The incumbent will engage with a diverse team that includes experts in Farm Bill conservation, decision support modeling, and spatial web development. Through these collaborations the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a large and well-connected professional network to leverage in their future career. The position will require strong interpersonal communication and coordination skills, the ability to work closely with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, professionals and students, and the ability to work and think independently. The position will also require strong writing skills for report and publication development.

The successful candidate will serve as overall project lead for the CRP Menu project, working under direction of a project steering committee, project investigators at Mississippi State University and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and project sponsors at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farm Services Agency. The successful candidate will be responsible for development and coordination of several stakeholder workshops in midwestern and southeastern farming communities in the U.S. and will serve as lead coordinator for development of the CRP Menu Tool, and administration/co-administration of a project team as appropriate. The successful candidate is expected to serve in a leadership role in developing and reporting on elements of each project objective and will also be responsible for regular and timely progress reports in the form of in-person meetings, conference calls/webinars, and written reports to the project steering committee, principal investigators, and funding sponsor. This position will require periodic travel within the midwestern and southeastern U.S. during stakeholder workshops (minimally 1-2 nights per month per workshop); but may also require travel to meetings and conferences in other states or countries.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be located in the Geosystems Research Institute at Mississippi State University, and should be available to start work no later than January 2, 2023, or as negotiated.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management or planning, or related field. The applicant must have 3 years’ experience in working with agricultural or natural resources conservation, organizing, and facilitating diverse stakeholder groups, and interacting with diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in natural resource management or planning, or related field. In addition to the required qualifications above, preferred qualifications include breadth and depth of experience working with in agricultural conservation, particularly with U.S. Farm Bill conservation programs, private landowner incentives programs, and/or conservation planning or decision support tools. Experience managing project teams comprised of individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives; experience managing/administering fiscal budgets for large conservation planning projects; experience in agricultural economics; land conservation decisions; and demonstrated evidence of implementation of these concepts in previous employment is preferred.

This position requires some travel within the midwestern and southeastern U.S.; but may also require travel to meetings in other states or countries. Position will require minimal or no work in field conditions or strenuous activities.
