Administrative Full-time Temporary Contract Replacement Position (May 13, 2024 – July 4, 2025)

The Commercialization Project Coordinator will support the Director of Conestoga’s new Centre for Commercialization in executing the Centre’s mandate to improve commercialization outcomes for regional entrepreneurs, small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and academic researchers. The Coordinator will act as a point of contact for Centre clients and provide project management oversight for all Centre supported activities. The incumbent will liaise regularly with Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) and other regional innovation intermediaries in support of collaborative activities and ensure effective communication and resource sharing. The Coordinator also liaises internally with applied research centres and academic leaders at the College to coordinate and plan the effective use of resources.

The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with one day on-site, and four days remote.

Responsibilities:

IP and Commercialization Services

  • Act as the key point of contact for SME or entrepreneur clients accessing services through the Centre
  • Work with applied research and technical leaders at the College to develop and maintain a menu of technical service and applied research supports for clients and identify any gaps in service offerings
  • Liaise with IPON for the purpose of providing referrals and developing a deep understanding of IPON services and supports
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Conestoga Entrepreneurship Collective when delivering services and referrals to and from existing ecosystem partners

Project Management

  • Liaise with Applied Research Centre leads to plan and resource technical service and commercialization projects
  • Responsible for providing project management oversight for the initiation, execution, and successful completion of commercialization projects in the Centre
  • Ensure project deliverables are met in accordance with partner expectations, funder guidelines, and college policies
  • Manage tracking of key metrics by maintaining ongoing relationships with clients to enable post-project data collection 

Knowledge Dissemination

  • Support the dissemination of knowledge through seminars, workshops, publications, and conference presentations
  • In collaboration with the ORS and the Director, develop content for website, social media, and marketing collaterals to promote the activities of the Centre and IPON

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in BEng, BComm, BA/BSc in Engineering, Business, Science, Law or a related field of study
  • Minimum three years of experience in product development, commercialization and/or technology transfer
  • Formal training in IP management or similar is desirable
  • Prior experience in an incubator, accelerator and/or post-secondary education institution would be an asset
  • Experience with creating, filing, and/or managing intellectual property in Canada or the United States
  • Experience in project management and working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication and the ability to cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships and an effective network of contacts
  • Incumbent must have capacity to resolve problems with good judgement and diplomacy
