Project Coordinator

The primary responsibilities of the Project Coordinator will be to work with the UPHN research staff to coordinate project activities; assist in project planning, and ensure that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed; serve as the principle administrative liaison for the project; and, develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.

PAC/HPV Immunization Project: The analyst will be primarily working on data from the CPAC/HPV immunization project. In early 2020, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) called on health care providers and communities across Canada to eliminate cervical cancer in Canada by 2040. The first phase of this work involves understanding: a)  HPV immunization coverage rates across Canada, and; b) Barriers and facilitators for families receiving the HPV vaccinations across Canada. Because HPV immunizations are surveilled and largely delivered by local public health staff, the UPHN has been commissioned to lead this project, along with partner organization, the Public Health Physicians of Canada (PHPC)

UPHN: The UPHN is a network of Medical Officers of Health who oversee public health in Canada’s leading urban centres. Representing 23 cities across the country, the network’s members are responsible for overseeing the population health of more than half of Canadians. As the senior public health officials in the largest public health bodies in their respective provinces and regions, they are often the first to encounter emerging public health problems and to develop effective interventions to address them.

The UPHN provides an opportunity for its members to collaborate, support, strategize, and learn from one another in order to advance population health and equity. The organization’s objectives include: sharing of best practices in the delivery and evaluation of public health programs and initiatives in urban centres; raising awareness of urban public health issues; fostering collaborative action on issues of mutual interest; advancing policy change by developing a collective voice for urban public health issues; and facilitating practice-based/intervention research opportunities in public health settings. 

Duties and responsibilities:

• Liaise with project staff, partners, and funders to coordinate project activities.
• Help to maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of project protocol; may coordinate the collection and analysis of data.
• Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of project and data collection activities; act as the primary administrative point of contact for internal staff and as the principal operational liaison for other organizations, funding agencies and regulating bodies.
• Coordinate the day-to-day activities of any support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of protocol, as appropriate to the position; may perform aspects of protocol, as required, in accordance with specified program objectives.
• Participate in planning and executing knowledge translation activities.
• Monitor the progress of project activities; develop and maintain records of research activities, and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
• Help to synthesize the incoming information about HPV coverage rates and barriers to coverage for final report.
• Assist in managing the budget.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, including support for other programs related to UPHN and this study.

Desired competencies: The UPHN is seeking someone with demonstrable experience in: project and event planning, implementation and evaluation, organizational skills and management, personal and team organization, writing skills, and attention to detail are important in this role. Graduate-level training in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience coordinating research in a clinical and/or non-clinical settings is preferred.

Duration and Location: 6.5 months. Start time September 2022 (TBD according to availability but no later than October 2022).

Supervisor(s): The Coordinator will be co-supervised by and work closely with Dr. Cordell Neudorf (Nominated Principal Applicant; Professor), Dr. Thilina Bandara (Assistant Professor) and Mika Rathwell (Project Lead) in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Neudorf is also President of the UPHN.
