Job description
TU Delft, Aardyn, Shell and EBN are taking an important step forward in the energy transition and are installing a geothermal source on the TU Delft campus. This source provides both the campus and a number of neighbourhoods in Delft with sustainable heat. A unique project in which a sustainable geothermal source is exploited on the TU Delft campus and at the same time is linked to a major scientific research program at the university.
One of the main objectives of the well is to carry out a detailed site specific characterisation on the geological history and heterogeneities within the subsurface. In order to achieve this, cores will be taken at several depth intervals during the drilling of the injector and producer of the geothermal source.
We are looking for an experienced geologist that will support the science team during implementation of the geothermal source. You will be embedded in the TU Delft team responsible for the scientific components of the geothermal source in the Department of Geoscience & Engineering. You will work in close cooperation with technicians, the core science team and especially the geological expert of the science team.
The project-based geologist will be overseeing and analysing the drilling and coring activities and data of the geothermal well during operations and both document and communicate the progress and data to the science team and the operator’s well-site geologist. During and after operations you will be leading the archiving of geological data and samples, start the analysis such to feed the reservoir geologic model needed for performance analysis.

Requirements
You have a strong background in geology as MSc or PhD and a proven record in the field preferably with experience in handling and analysing subsurface data and in the field of integrated stratigraphy. Depending on the geologic track record, the position can be filled by a candidate in different stages of their career.
Besides technical expertise, the position requires a high level of organisational and communication skills and enthusiasm to work on the project. You are pro-active and able to navigate through a complex project with various stakeholders, responsibilities and communication needs. A high level of competence in English is required and Dutch is advantageous. Preferably, you have a proven record in (drilling) projects where fast decisions under a lot of pressure have to be made.
