We are looking for a Programmer Analyst to join the UTHealth School of Public Health Center for Health Care Data team in Houston, TX 77030. This is a hybrid position with flexible scheduling. In this position, you would be responsible for analyzing datasets, developing program specifications, writing and maintaining programs, coding and testing programs, and providing production support.  This position encourages creative thinking and depends on the ability to work productively with many team members, including public health researchers and advocates, clinicians, statisticians, IT system experts, project managers, policy experts, etc.

Position Summary:

The Center for Health Care Data (CHCD) has projects related to healthcare research in claims and EHR datasets. The ideal candidate uses knowledge of the healthcare system and payment methodologies to create the coding required to extract data to support the researcher’s questions. Responsible for analyzing datasets, developing program specifications, writing and maintaining programs, coding and testing programs, and providing production support.  This position encourages creative thinking and depends on the ability to work productively with many team members, including public health researchers and advocates, clinicians, statisticians, IT system experts, project managers, policy experts, etc.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Designs and documents the program or series of programs that will best meet the needs of the client/user.
  • Designs Physical/Logical data models during the initial phase of the project blueprint. 
  • Designs Physical/Logical data models.
  • Ensures that the specifications are thorough and detailed to avoid problems in coding development.
  • Adheres to the departmental standards for program specifications and ensures the client and supervisor approve the documents.
  • Consults resources and materials as needed.
  • Codes moderate to complex programs and ensure that the programs conform to departmental standards.
  • Thoroughly and adequately test all program functions before submitting them to the lead analyst or manager for quality review and verification.
  • Prepares the proper paperwork and follows correct procedures for implementing new programs or changes in production.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of completed/existing programs and systems.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Certification/Skills:

  • SAS, PL/SQL, Python, Tableau, Database side: SQL
  • Preferred: Healthcare knowledge
  • Proficient knowledge in Data Warehouse dimensional modeling, including extraction, loading, and transformation.
  • Proficient in problem-solving abilities and communication.

 

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related field, or relevant experience instead of education.

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Three and a half years of programming experience.

 

Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.Security Sensitive: This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
