Program Training Coordinator

JOB SYNOPSIS: Reporting to the co-director of the Planning, Learning, and Disaster Response (PLDR) Department, the Program Training Coordinator will lead and coordinate MCC-wide onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training for program staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

30% Ongoing training in PMER for program staff

20% Onboarding and orientation of program staff to PMER

20% Facilitating cross-program learning

20% Promoting program staff professional development

10% Coordinate efforts with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning coordinator.

Specific Tasks and Duties:

1. Onboarding and orientation of program staff to PMER

  • Make onboarding contacts with new program staff to introduce them to MCC’s PMER system and the work of the department, coordinating with the MERL coordinator for onboarding program staff to Insight.
  • Lead sessions at MCC’s general orientations and leadership orientations about PMER and MCC’s operating principles.
  • Lead and coordinate program skills training as part of orientation for new MCC program staff.
  • Coordinate with staff in human resources on department’s connection to general and leadership orientations.

2. Ongoing training in PMER for program staff

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the department and beyond (e.g., HR, financial services, IT, safeguarding, racial equity) to identify training priorities and to develop different types of in-person and virtual training opportunities to address those priorities.
  • Coordinate with staff to highlight in all program trainings how MCC’s operating principles shape its program.
  • Lead the ongoing development and implementation of MCC’s annual Program Training Institute, with a series of virtual courses over a 2-4 week period in May/early June each year for program staff.
  • Train and equip departmental colleagues and other program staff on effective online and in-person adult education approaches.
  • Develop and facilitate multiple trainings and encounters related to project PME, partnerships, and sector-focused topics each year.

3. Facilitating cross-program learning

  • Organize and host regular virtual gatherings of the MCC-wide PME Network, identifying focus topics and input people.
  • Oversee schedule and identify focus topics for regional PME gatherings.
  • Manage pool of external consultants who can be called on to help with training, evaluation and learning activities.
  • Arrange for interpretation at department-led trainings.
  • Regularly review MCC’s guidelines and practice related to partner gatherings and exchanges, capture learnings from those gatherings and exchanges, and promote ways to strengthen these gatherings and exchanges as venues for learning and accountability.
  • Organize and support the quarterly virtual global partner gatherings hosted by MCC’s international program directors.

4. Promoting program staff professional development

  • Serve as departmental point person for system-wide discussions of professional development.
  • Represent department in system-wide explorations of learning management systems.
  • Once a learning management system has been agreed upon, lead efforts to develop a curriculum of asynchronous modules and synchronous trainings for ongoing professional development and internal certification along different program tracks.

5. Coordinate efforts with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning coordinator.

Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.

Supervision: This position does not directly supervise any other positions.

Travel expectations: Travel between 20-40 days/year, consisting of 2-3 global trips of one-to-three weeks each plus occasional trips in Canada and the United States of one week or less.

Essential:

  • At least three years of experience in implementing or supporting humanitarian assistance, sustainable community development, or peacebuilding projects.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of outcomes-based planning, monitoring, and evaluation for humanitarian relief, development, and peacebuilding work.
  • Strong facilitation and teaching skills, with experience using adult education approaches.
  • Close familiarity with participatory methods for conducting situation assessments, planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Extensive experience in planning and facilitating workshops and other learning events, including in intercultural and virtual settings.
  • Dynamic presenter who can convey information in an engaging fashion and stimulate participatory learning.
  • Strong writing and speaking skills.
  • Experience developing online modules for learning management systems.
  • Ability to keep multiple projects moving ahead simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. or Canada. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:

  • Competency in more than one language desirable (Spanish or French preferable).
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
