Department:L&S/CTR FOR HEALTHY MINDS

Location: Madison
Categories: Engagement and Outreach

Job Summary:

The Loka Initiative is an education and outreach platform for faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our mission is to support faith-led environmental and climate efforts locally and around the world by helping build capacity of faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions, and by creating new opportunities for projects, partnerships and public outreach. Loka’s vision is that inner, community, and planetary resilience are interdependent; we cannot achieve any one of these goals without working on the other two.
Loka will be launching a two-year project that consists of online courses for communities of faith on environmental and climate project design and management in the first year and culminates in an in-person symposium in the second year. The Program Specialist will help develop the curriculum, coordinate instructor and lecturer scheduling, manage the course implementation and resources, process honoraria, enrollment and user access to the education platform.
The Program Specialist will work with the Program Outreach Coordinator to help develop, organize and lead event planning processes for capacity building and public events (3 per year on average). This will involve working with external and internal partners, and supporting social media and follow up activities.
The Program Specialist will coordinate academic research and resources on ecoanxiety and climate distress. Duties will include organizing and helping develop resources on ecoanxiety and climate distress, including the Resilience in the Anthropocene summit in the Spring of 2023, and coordinating the internal research team and external partners on ongoing primary and secondary research.
Equity and inclusion are integral to achieving the vision of the Center for Healthy Minds. We seek candidates with an awareness of and commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion across all spectrums. Because inequities in our societies, including the fields of science and academia, disproportionately harm the most marginalized members of our society – especially women and Black, Indigenous, People of Color – we believe that these identities must be centered in the work of our center. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized groups. If this role speaks to you, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities: Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 10% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 10% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 10% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 10% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 40% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 10% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 10% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
