Program Manager, LGBTQIA+ Initiatives

The LGBTQIA+ Program Manager is a member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Unit and provides leadership for the Qube (LGBTQIA+ Resource Center). This includes overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Qube, supervising graduate intern and student staff, and designing and implementing innovative programming guided by an intersectional social justice framework. This position also works collaboratively with colleagues and offices/departments across campus to advance student retention, intercultural engagement, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts, and support the continued development of an inclusive campus environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with more than three years of professional experience in relevant field or Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, LGBTQIA+, or related degree with more than one year
  • of professional experience in relevant field.
  • Strong working knowledge of LGBTQIA+ communities and gender and sexuality identity and development
  • Experience working with budgets and daily office operations
  • Working experience with events, programming, and/or workshop leadership
  • Intercultural competence and understanding of intersecting identities
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders, teams, other offices, or departments

Highly Desired

  • Strong professional experience in student services and development, or a fast-paced resource center environment with a focus on LGBTQIA+ programming and services
  • Experience supervising student staff or volunteers including hiring, training, and evaluating people
  • Experience working with crisis management and resource referrals
  • Experience working in complex, fast-paced, political environments

RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Support

  • Provide leadership of advocacy and advisement and engage in crisis intervention and resource referral.
  • Serve as a resource person by assisting students in navigating support services and advising students on gender and sexuality concerns/services.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources and services on campus and in the community for support.
  • Work closely with the EDI Office to provide support, service, advocacy and leadership to students concerning LGBTQIA+ issues.
  • Develop collaborative working partnerships, specifically in the areas of student retention, intersecting identities, and EDI to support student success and engagement.
  • Serve on the Bias Incident Response Team, Sexual Violation Coalition, and Student Health Services Advisory Board when called upon.
  • May serve as the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) student organization advisor, with GSA approval.

Outreach, Programming, and Training:

  • Develop LGBTQIA+ and social justice related programs, training, and workshops, and provide support and advocacy on issues of power, privilege, and intersecting identities such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, etc.
  • Implement intentional programming that promotes student sense of belonging, LGBTQIA+ student success, an understanding of student needs, and greater understanding of social justice related topics.
  • Oversee the annual awards and recognition banquet, the Qubie Gayla, including coordinating the award nomination and selection process, catering and room/technology set up, and all nominees and speakers.
  • Oversee the annual recognition ceremony, Rainbow Graduation, for graduating students, including coordinating room reservations, speakers, and communication with all participants.
  • Manage all marketing for Qube programming including Connect events, digital signage, campus poster distribution, university calendar events, weekly Connect newsletter, social media, etc.
  • Work in collaboration with University Housing to provide support to the Out at Stout living community.
  • Build community partnerships to better serve students and expand resources.

Departmental & Campus Contributions:

  • Assist in the development/delivery of department and division programs; create and support program efforts that increase understanding of theory and practice related to student development, LGBTQIA+, and social justice topics.
  • Professional contributions could include institutional committee work, applied research, statewide, regional and national association membership and involvement.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Qube is UW-Stout’s Resource Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bi/Pansexual, Trans/Non-Binary, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual/Aromantic (LGBTQIA+) students and allies. The Qube is located in Price Commons and includes a private lounge, workspace, and resource library. The center is staffed with peers who provide assistance, answer questions, and direct students to services. The Qube is committed to providing LGBTQIA+ students and their allies with an open, nurturing, and affirming community. The program manager will be a part of the EDI Unit and will enjoy the support of a network of colleagues committed to supporting historically underrepresented and underserved students and their success. The EDI Office fosters opportunities for growth and development in connecting with others who value equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as facilitating opportunities for network development.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Minimum starting salary $52,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan.
