Job Overview

In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports & Camps, the Program Manager has primary oversight for the management and facilitation of the Intramural Sports and REC Kids Camp programs, student staff hiring, training, payroll, and development, schedule development, program safety and risk management, program marketing and social media. Secondary oversight includes special event development and delivery and oversight of equipment and expenditure budgets. The Program Manager is responsible for officials development and training and the development and management of the camp counselor staff for summer, spring and winter break camps. The Program Manager may need to assist in game management on an intermittent basis as needed. A vital component of this position is a demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking, as well as a strong commitment to student development, collaboration, and customer service. Additionally, this position has significant financial, administrative and personnel responsibilities and will serve on departmental committees and work teams.   

 

This position does include the ability for a hybrid work schedule with up to a 20% work from home option.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, design, develop, modify and present programs. Perform program needs assessment and make recommendations.
  • Implement policies and procedures.
  • Maintain budget, prepare contracts, approve and monitor expenditures, prepare budget requests and financial reports. 
  • Act as a liaison to internal departments, external entities and community organizations. 
  • May prepare and edit reports and/or newsletter and develop publication materials.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. 

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in intramural sports and/or youth programming/operations/management or related area
  • Must include at least one (1) year of staff supervision
  • Experience training, developing and evaluating sports officials and/or youth programming staff
  • Ability to work weekends and evening hours, including outdoors

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Previous experience managing and facilitating intramural sports leagues and/or camp programming
  • Knowledge of sport rules and experience officiating several sports including flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and softball
  • Proven experience with student staff development and customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, assess alternatives and render consistent and logical decisions

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
