Job Description

Access ASU is currently hiring a Program Manager to provide leadership, implementation and support for the Bank of America Arizona Economic Opportunity grant (“Leverage AZ”) and other outreach programs as needed. Under the general supervision of the Director, the Program Manager will serve as a key leader and work as part of the team to implement a grant focused on decreasing the economic opportunity gap for underrepresented students and learners. The Program Manager will handle operations related to program execution, including but not limited to, planning and logistics, marketing and outreach, participant registrations and enrollment, budget monitoring and program assessment.

In addition, the Program Manager will work closely with ASU Career and Development Services (CPDS) as a liaison between units to advance our shared work and engage in high level industry partnership relationship management. 

The ideal candidate must work well independently in a fast-paced, flexible environment, provide a high level of client service to both the university and external communities, and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player. This position requires evidence of effective time management skills and success in being accountable for specific outcomes.

Essential Duties

  • Works as part of a team to support Access ASU and Bank of America grant goals.
  • Supports the development and implementation of work plans in accordance with the established unit and program objectives and funding.
  • Monitors operations, logistics, and scheduling.
  • Supervises, leads, trains, and monitors the activities of assigned staff.
  • Assists the Director with the creation of budget proposals, recommendations, and approvals where appropriate.
  • Establishes a budget control system for controlling expenditures in accordance with university, unit, and department policies.
  • Works closely with CPDS in development and implementation of strategy and shared partnerships.
  • Performs tasks related to a specific function/program assigned, such as marketing, development of projects, and implementation of goals.
  • Identifies, develops and maintains working relationships with university, industry and community agencies for support as appropriate to work assignment.
  • Works with management team to evaluate effectiveness and potential of unique programs/functions.
  • Provides leadership training and organizational management opportunities through workshops and seminars to targeted groups.
  • Screens and reviews qualifications, educational background, and interests of undergraduate student candidates to match employer requirements for career positions and internships
  • Generate necessary reports documenting, monitoring progress towards Access ASU and grant goals, and tracking for ensuring all aspects of function/program are implemented and controlled according to plans
  •  Assist with ongoing data collection and tracking as needed for all university and federal reporting, including the annual performance report.
  • Travel to off-campus meetings and events regularly, using personal vehicle.

While the majority of duties will center around the Bank of America Arizona Economic Opportunity grant, the ideal candidate will also be ready and able to assist in other priority duties as needed. Oversees the development and facilitation of workshops, meetings or conferences with high impact on program and/or participants; monitors logistics, scheduling and participant communications.

Work location is in person at the assigned ASU location in Tempe, AZ. Work schedule will be flexible, depending on when programs are offered, to include nights and weekends. On days when programs are not offered, work schedule will be Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
