Your opportunity:

The Office of Indigenous Health, part of Temerty Medicine’s Vice Dean of Strategy portfolio, is committed to supporting learners, faculty, and staff throughout the education continuum. Our role involves identifying the necessary resources and providing Indigenous leadership, with the goal of creating culturally safe learning and working environments where Indigenous knowledge is both respected and valued.

As Program Coordinator, Mushkiki Miikan, you will play an instrumental role in expanding support for Indigenous students in postsecondary education and across medical school pathways. You will collaborate closely with key partners and stakeholders, including the Office of Access and Outreach and NOSM University, to coordinate and implementa program that meets the needs and interests of both prospective and current applicants. You will also provide guidance to Indigenous learners towards relevant activities and events hosted by partner institutions, ensuring their perspectives are integrated into both the planning and execution of program initiatives. Your deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues and commitment to enhancing Indigenous health outcomes and fostering an inclusive academic environment will be crucial for our success.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Fostering strong relationships with partnering organizations, Indigenous communities, and other key stakeholders
• Communicating among project partners, stakeholders, and participants to encourage collaboration and information exchange
• Promoting programs and service offerings, liaising with communications staff to coordinate marketing activities
• Attending fairs, speaking tocommunity members and prospective learners
• Designing surveys, interviews and other research tools for program evaluation

Essential Qualifications:

• Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
• Minimum five years’ related outreach and program experience working within Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) communities and agencies
• A deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, as well as a commitment to improving Indigenous health outcomes and promoting an inclusive academic environment
• Experience working and collaborating in cross-cultural settings, preferably with Elders, Senators, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous leaders, communities, and organizations
• Clear and demonstrated experience of culturally safe practices when working with Indigenous peoples
• Experience coordinating education programs and contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of programming
• Experience drafting presentations and writing reports for review
• Demonstrated experience coordinating events and outreach activities; experience speaking in front of large audiences for outreach purposes
• Experience with collecting and analyzing data and the preparation of data reports
• Advanced level proficiency with MS Office Suite, survey tool, presentation software and content management systems
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels with proven ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing skills
• Demonstrated organizational and planning skills
• Must embrace diversity and inclusion as an integral component of a quality university experience
• Must be an enthusiastic and energetic team player who works collaboratively in a complex multi-stakeholder environment

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: 

USW Pay Band 10 — $70,844. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $90,595. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
