Brief Position Overview The Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons (DISC) is seeking a highly organized and motivated individual for the position of Program Coordinator. The individual in this position will be an integral part of the DISC team and will work with students, faculty, staff, parents, and off-campus partners. This position will serve as a first point of contact for the DISC and perform many of the daily operations along with creating a support network for student engagement. This position will provide student-support services through building relationships among student with underrepresented identities on campus. The Program Coordinator will stay up-to-date on local, national resources and programs relevant to BIPOC students; work with campus units to support campus-wide initiatives that support underrepresented students.

Position Details

General Statement The person in the Program Coordinator role is an essential member of the DISC team and provides program and admin assistance at the DISC office that directly supports the different underrepresented students at MSU.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide customized and culturally appropriate support to students and any constituents who visit the DISC. This may include prospective students and families, students in crisis, campus partners, donors, or community members.
  • Coordinate all programmatic elements and logistics for DISC events and programs, including managing budget and timelines, booking locations, ordering refreshments, designing and sending the invitation, handling reservations, coordinating with presenters, and gathering/assembling materials.
  • Coordinate communications for the office, including content development of newsletters, creating social media posts and overseeing a student social media coordinator, and managing electronic calendar systems.
  • Provide professional and sensitive customer service and communication (phone, email, and in-person).
  • Manage paper and electronic records for various DISC programs and initiatives.
  • Perform general office tasks as assigned such as filing, copying, and paperwork intake. Schedule meetings as needed.
  • Participate in meetings with DISC staff. Design, maintain and create print and digital marketing materials, newsletters, and other informational items for the events or programs.
  • Manage the DISC website with updated content as needed.
  • Manage calendars for the director or other appropriate staff in the office.
  • Assist the director by providing support for DISC projects and programs as needed.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, political science, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons mission and strategic goals with experience providing functional support and project support for marginalized student populations.
  • Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service and ability to maintain positive relationships with partners, associates, and collaborators.
  • Successful experience completing complex tasks independently with minimal supervision such as coordination of meetings, events, or large group meetings.
  • Develop DEI-related communications to a wide variety of audiences (DISC partners and students).
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated competence in designing and developing materials using various software programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft products and demonstrated ability to manage Microsoft Teams, Slack, Trello, or project management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with various constituents e.g., team members, students, partners, and allies.

    Physical Demands
    • This is a full-time position, with regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
    • Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funding.
    • This position may require some in-state travel.
