Overview The Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program is a 5-year pre-college program for talented, low income, first generation college-bound youth from Rutgers University’s five host cities: Camden, New Brunswick, Newark, Piscataway, and Rahway. The goal of the RFS Program is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and attend college. Scholars who successfully complete the program, and receive admission into Rutgers University receive a full-tuition scholarship (after all federal and state grant aid) funded through a range of grants and donations.
Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I for the the Rahway Community for Rutgers Future Scholars. Reporting to and under the supervision of the Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program Director and Senior Program Coordinator for Rahway, this position will have primary responsibility for the coordination of key components of the Rutgers Future Scholars program in Rahway. The coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and advising 15 rising 8th graders, with a cohort of 15 added each subsequent year (Year 5: max 75 in grades 8th through 12th) The coordinator will develop and implement year-round programming focused on the Scholars’ (including summers) academic, college preparatory, cultural, and personal development in collaboration with district and RFS program leaders. Programs may take place during the school day, after-school, evenings, Saturdays, and summer months, as deemed appropriate. The incumbent will supervise RFS seasonal and temporary personnel. The coordinator will manage and support budget and program reporting, communications/social media accounts, maintain accurate records and data, support and foster relationships with RFS university director, the Rahway Township Public Schools leadership, other RFS sites, corporate and foundation partners, private supporters, and other relevant agencies. The coordinator will also have the shared responsibility to serve as an Alumni Relations coordinator providing college/transfer advising and communication about RFS events/or RU services to current undergraduates.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Develops and implements comprehensive programming for RFS participants at Rahway and Rutgers campus site.
  • Develops student learning plans and monitor student progress.
  • Coordinates, facilitates and supports RFS Rahway site participants with networking, mentorship, and college readiness activities.
  • Supervises Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) seasonal or temporary personnel and evaluate RFS program staff at the Rahway site with oversite from Sr. Program Coordinator.
  • Implements counseling and academic support protocols and procedures for the RFS Rahway site. Supervises and conduct staff training and orientation activities/workshops.
  • Supports and fosters relationships with the RFS Program Director, the Rahway Public School System (CPS), other RFS sites, partners, and other relevant agencies.
  • Supports the ongoing relationships with relevant RFS sites and relevant partners and agencies Represent the RFS Rahway site at related functions and forums.
  • Updates and ensures accurate records and data to effectively support RFS objectives.
  • Distributes evaluations of all RFS site activities as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records and data on RFS site participants and ensure compatibility of data collection and maintenance with University systems and requirements.
  • Assists Senior Program Coordinator and RFS Leadership with the RFS Rahway budget and program reporting.
  • Assists with the maintenance of RFS site budget, budget expenditures, budget reports, and systems in conjunction with the Director of RFS, and the RFS Budget Manager as needed.
  • Submits all budget and program reports required and/or requested on time and error free.
  • Ensures that all programming and budget expenditures meet RFS specified requirements, obligations, and timeframes.

Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. COVID-19 Immunization Requirement Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience, in education, human/youth development, sociology, social work, non-profit management, English, science, math, or related technical fields.
  • 3-5 years of related professional experience with progressive responsibility which includes youth development programming, working with diverse populations in educational settings or community based organizations, collaboration/coalition building, budget preparation and assessment.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, public presentation, written communication, organizational, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters of Social Work.
  • Knowledge and experience working with the community of Rahway or similar community.
  • Fluency in other languages (Spanish/English).

  • Microsoft Office, Zoom, canva, etc.

Special Conditions
  • Hours of availability will vary and may require evenings or weekend hours.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Will require travel into the Rahway school district.
