Job Description

Under the supervision of Nancy Godoy, Director of Community-Driven Archives (CDA) Initiative, the Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for the successful implementation and completion of a three-year grant funded project titled “Centering BIPOC Memory Keepers and Advancing Equity and Inclusion”. The project team will establish the Community Archivist Fellowship Program for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). The program will support the development of a diverse workforce in libraries and archives by introducing underserved and underrepresented students to archival theory at the community college and tribal college level.

This position is grant funded for a period of 3 years ending on 7/31/2025.   There is no anticipation of funding beyond 7/31/2025.

Essential Duties

  • Assist the Principal Investigators of this project by establishing the fellowship curriculum and by conducting preliminary research.
  • Oversee daily operations and coordinate activities of the program including creating and leading data gathering and analysis.
  • Establish a clear line of communication between the project team and fellows.
  • Supervise students and provide support with their Service Learning Projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of ALA accredited Masters degree in Library and Information Science OR Master’s degree in History, American Indian Studies, Indigenous Education, Black Studies, or Ethnic Studies.
  • Experience working with community archives or in cultural heritage institutions (library, archive or museum).
  • Knowledge of inclusive metadata description practices for BIPOC collections
  • Experience providing programs for BIPOC populations and/or coordinating events tailored to BIPOC audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BIPOC scholarship, BIPOC information services, BIPOC people’s histories, cultures, and arts as well as cultural fluency for BIPOC contexts.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex and time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Skills in effective assessment tools, administrative analysis, and report preparation.
  • Effective communication skills (especially in Spanish and English), both written and verbal.
  • Evidence of coursework or experience with teaching information literacy
  • Demonstrated commitment to community building and/or student-centered learning
  • Knowledge of BIPOC pedagogical approaches
  • Experience with or training in using learning technologies
  • Supervisory experience, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student and para-professional workers.

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds.
  • May be required to travel to meet with project partners.
