History:

The UCF History Department studies the past in service to the present and the future, working with partners locally, nationally, and internationally to produce new perspectives on the past for scholars and the general public. The History Department is searching for a Program Coordinator to support the Public History Program. They will support a number of programs, including the Veterans History project, RICHES (Regional Initiative for Collecting the History, Experiences, and Stories of Central Florida), and lecture series.

The Opportunity:

The selected candidate will coordinate Community Outreach for the Public History program including educational programming and training, Veterans History project and other Public History projects. They will assist the Public History Director with public relations, publicity, marketing, fund-raising, and communication with community partners. Candidate for community outreach, developing training programs for community partners, faculty and students, serving as liaison with departments and units, developing co-curricular opportunities for projects, and recruiting faculty to participate in projects.

Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for all community outreach for both the Public History and History Department and programs under its aegis, such as the Veterans History Project and RICHES.

  • Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and executing public events and marketing initiatives.

  • Responsible for daily operations of project, grant writing, building relationships with veteran agencies, recruiting veterans for oral histories, collecting and processing oral histories, serving as liaison with the UCF Library and Library of Congress.

  • Responsible for supervising GRAs, interns, and OPS positions that assist in the various projects.

  • Makes independent decisions in the areas of communication, marketing, and event management.

Business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. Position requires attendance at events during non-business hours as needed to represent the department and manage events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, communication skills (verbal and written); extensive computer skills in MSWord, Excel, Outlook, and TEAMs.

  • Familiar with digital tools for marketing such as Canva, photo & video editing software, and Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Able to represent the History Department at public events and work with public organizations in a professional manner.

  • Highly organized to coordinate projects such as the UCF Community Veterans History Project, RICHES, etc.

  • Familiar with a university setting, as this role will coordinate outreach with other departments including training faculty, serving as liaison to other departments and units, developing co-curricular opportunities for projects, and recruiting faculty to participate in projects.
