The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Program Assistant P7 to serve as a member of the Coastal Bend Health Education Center, Vaccination Education & Outreach team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of health outreach experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Job Description Summary: The Program Assistant, under general supervision, provides standard program support.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Two years of related experience in public health, health outreach, and education.
- Experience in leading and conducting specialized trainings.
- Experience interacting/working with health care agencies and/or providers.
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) certification, certified Community Health Worker (CHW), or able to successfully complete the CHW certification within six months of employment.
- Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) Diabetes Community Care Coordinator certification, or able to successfully complete the Diabetes Community Care Coordinator certification within six months of employment.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.
- Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to speak English and Spanish.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists in the dissemination of health-related information and Document Vaccination Education and Outreach Program participation and referrals.
- Host meetings and develop informative digital content. Work collaboratively with community partners.
- Travels to various locations for program outreach activities.
- Serves as a first point of contact and coordinates request responses for program information.
- Supports educational messaging for promoting wellness, referral process with healthcare providers, and healthcare systems to improve coordination of services.
- Serves as a navigator to residents to connect with residents to community resources available such as transportation, food, housing, utility financial assistance, clinical care and much more to reduce social determinants of health that affect quality of life.
- Assists with meetings and materials.
- Facilitates communication plan for positive promotion of vaccinations for social media, print, television and radio.
- Prepares program correspondence.
- Creates, establishes, and maintains program files, databases, correspondence, and program materials.
- Accurately maintains daily activity logs regarding client activity and destinations.
- Telephones pre and post appointment reminders; telephones recruitment after outreach/educational events.
- Continuously research the available resources of COVID vaccination sites and create and maintain a resource list.
- Assists in coordinating logistics and travel for program classes, workshops, and other special events.
- Recommends changes to the Vaccine Education and Outreach Program.
- Continuously expands knowledge and understanding of community resources, services and programs provided.
- Identifies and applies appropriate role definition and skilled boundaries.
- Other duties as assigned. Work beyond normal offices hours and/or work on weekends.
Other Requirements or Other Factors
- May be required to work after normal office hours and on weekends.
- Travel is required. Must be able to travel to different locations.
- Light to moderate lifting required (up to 20 lbs.)
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training is required in accordance with TAMUS policy.

- Strong ability to work with diverse low-income population.
