Position Focus:

The Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH), led by the schools of public health, medicine and nursing, is a university-wide effort to address global health issues, and serves as the focal point for research, education and engagement with global partners to improve the health of individuals and populations worldwide. Reporting to the Managing Director of the Sustainable Health Initiative and the Associate Director of YIGH, who leads the Faculty Support Initiative, YIGH seeks a Program Administrator who will develop and manage innovative global health programs for YIGH, including the Sustainable Health Initiative (SHI) and the Faculty Support Initiative (FSI). The successful candidate will also work with other members of the YIGH team to support the conceptualization, development, and implementation of other new global health initiatives at Yale.

Responsibilities include: Sustainable Health Initiative (SHI): (approximately 60 – 70%) Manage all SHI innovation activities including innovation exchange conversation series and mentor in residence program. Manage and coordinate the redevelopment of the SHI accelerator program, building internal capacity to deliver this content and mentoring. Represent SHI at innovation and entrepreneurship events with internal and external partners. Prepare briefing and other materials for development opportunities, YIGH leadership, and others. Coordinate with the YIGH Associate Communications Officer on SHI communications needs including the YIGH website, stories, and other opportunities. Develop content as needed. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator and Director, develop and coordinate new programming to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in global health and explore and cultivate new opportunities with students and faculty in partnership with other innovation centers at Yale. Faculty Support Initiative (FSI): approximately 30 – 40%) Manage all aspects of YIGH seed grant programs, including the Hecht Global Health Faculty Network Award and Spark Award and others that arise; organize and facilitate informational meetings and events as appropriate. Develop and manage the affiliate faculty scientific review committee for Hecht and Spark Awards. Serve as the YIGH central coordinator on Fogarty training grants, including maintaining a grant library and liaison to pre-award, track resources that could benefit a variety of programs, and provide advice to faculty developing and leading these programs. In collaboration with the Associate Director, better understand administrative and operational post-award issues faced by YIGH-affiliated faculty and develop processes to troubleshoot and improve administrative issues, in collaboration with the International Operations and Compliance Committee and other entities at Yale, as appropriate. Support the Associate Director to conceptualize, facilitate, and continuously improve YIGH programs and faculty-centered learning opportunities that support and meet the unique needs of YIGH-affiliated faculty.

Essential Duties

1. In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities. 2. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures. 3. Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. 4. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 5. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. 6. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. 7. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. 8. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. 9. Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s degree or 4 years of related experience. Public health experience is highly desirable.
