| Position Description Summary: | The George Washington University Law School seeks applications for a Professor of Practice specializing in national security, cybersecurity, and foreign relations law, beginning as early as Spring 2023, for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal for a second and third three-year terms. This is a non-tenure track, specialized faculty position. Responsibilities would include teaching and mentoring students and participating in the development, promotion, and administration of the National Security, Cybersecurity, and Foreign Relations Program. The Professor of Practice position will also afford the opportunity to publish legal and policy-related writing. The University and Law School have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. | Specific Duties and Responsibilities: | The Professor of Practice will teach core Program courses, especially in areas of need, and will assist in developing on-line courses and materials for the Program. The Professor of Practice will be responsible for mentoring students and assisting them with securing experiential and employment opportunities. The Professor of Practice also will assist as needed with supervision of student research and writing projects undertaken towards the completion of relevant degree programs, including theses, journal notes, and research papers. The Professor of Practice will work with the Program Director and Faculty Co-Directors, as well as affiliated faculty, staff, and students, to develop, promote, and administer the Program, including convening and participating in high-level law and policy workshops, speaker series, and other scholarly, professional, and public-facing projects and events. As needed, the Professor of Practice will work with student organizations such as National Security Law Association and Military Law Society to sponsor events. | Minimum Qualifications: | We are seeking applications from candidates who have: • a J.D. (or equivalent international degree and U.S. LL.M.); • established professional eminence in the field of national security, cybersecurity, or foreign relations law with significant and current professional experience in legal practice, with recent and sustained activity and accomplishments in and significant contributions to the field of national security, cybersecurity, and foreign relations law; • a record of serving in senior positions in important national security, cybersecurity, or foreign relations institutions, and specialized experience and knowledge valuable for educating and preparing law students for present-day practice; • history of teaching excellence or demonstrated strong teaching ability; and • published scholarship in the field or strong legal writing and research skills |
