Job Summary | The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering (IMSE) in the College of Engineering, the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a Professor and Department Chair, with tenure. The Chair will provide vision and leadership that will guide the IMSE department toward achieving world-class research excellence while continuing the tradition of its high-quality teaching programs. The Chair will enable the IMSE department to significantly increase its research funding and endowments to address national and international challenges, while fostering collaborations with industry, government groups, and within the university and with other universities. Department and College/School Information The College of Engineering provides one of the most comprehensive engineering programs in the nation, with 12 baccalaureate, 13 master’s, and 9 doctoral programs with approximately 9,500 students from over 100 different countries. The IMSE Department consists of a talented, and collaborative faculty of 21 members and about 500 students (http://www.uta.edu/ie/). The IMSE Department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Industrial Engineering, an MS in Engineering Management, and multiple graduate certificate programs. Areas of current faculty research include data analytics and operations research, engineering education, engineering statistics, human factors, logistics, manufacturing, and systems engineering & engineering management with applications areas such as healthcare, sustainability, energy, transportation, and defense. The IMSE Department houses multiple labs including the Center on Stochastic Modeling, Optimization, and Statistics (COSMOS) (https://cosmos.uta.edu/ ), and the RFID, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Lab (RAID) (https://www.uta.edu/rfid ). Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Successful candidates are expected to continue our tradition of welcoming and promoting a broad range of thought and approaches to educational strategies and to foster a sense of belonging within the faculty, staff, and student community. Other duties and responsibilities include: · Pursuing and achieving departmental excellence in teaching, research, and service. · Strategic planning and goal setting aligned with institutional efforts at the college and university level. · Directs and coordinates the academic, operational, personnel, student, and selected budgetary activities of the department. · Management and professional development of faculty members and staff. · Addressing questions, complaints, grievances, and suggestions from faculty, staff, and students. · Provide leadership to achieve healthy student enrollment outcomes related to new student enrollment and to student success including course completions, student retention, graduation rates and timely degree completion. |
Required Qualifications | A Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related area is required. Candidates should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and have a strong record of scholarship and teaching commensurate with appointment as Professor. |
