Professor

The Robert and Donna Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenured Professor or Associate Professor to serve as Chair of the Department of Nursing, to begin on September 1, 2023.

Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field and be eligible for RN licensure in Massachusetts. Preferred qualifications include evidence of prior academic leadership roles (ideally as a Department Chair), a program of research/scholarship consistent with appointment to a senior rank, and experience in teaching and mentoring junior faculty and students.

The ideal candidate will provide evidence of:

  • A visionary transformational leadership approach including experience with consensus-based shared faculty governance
  • Previous leadership in development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing curricula and accreditation processes
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration in educational, research/scholarly initiatives, and service-related activities
  • Previous experience supporting faculty development including research/scholarly activities for both tenure track and scholarship of practice faculty
  • Experience with creation of partnerships within and beyond the academy including clinical and community-based settings

The MCNHS includes Departments of Nursing, Exercise and Health Sciences, and the newly formed Department of Urban Public Health. Our programs focus on health across the life course of individuals from diverse population and target improving health equity in populations at risk for healthcare disparities. The MCNHS and its Office of Research offer strong internal and external mentoring programs for faculty, including grant proposal and manuscript preparation. The Manning College offers a wide range of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunities. Current faculty collaborations include those with numerous major academic and medical institutions in and around Boston, including the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, UMass Chan Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and many community, public, and private health care agencies. The National Cancer Institute funds the University of Massachusetts Boston-Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center grant (https://umb-dfhcc.org/ ); this longstanding collaboration has enabled faculty at both institutions to strengthen and extend partnerships for research on health disparities, PhD training, and community outreach.

The BS, MS, and DNP nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The MS and DNP programs focus on preparation of Family Nurse Practitioners and Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioners.  A major focus of the PhD in nursing program is on health policy within the context of population health.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and previous experience. The position will remain open until filled.
