Job Summary:

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a full-time Professional Lecturer in Fashion Merchandising, with a desired expertise in aspects of all tenets of sustainable fashion, to commence Fall 2023. This position requires extensive knowledge in all facets of circular fashion initiatives, social responsibility, ethical manufacturing practices, and their global impact. Candidates should have expertise in ethical supply chain assurance, global supply tracing, transparent product life cycle models, macro trend insights at the forefront of the fashion industry today, as well as sustainable branding tactics. Additional desired fashion skill sets such as product development, retailing, and global merchandising will be highly regarded.
This position aligns with the School of Communication and the Arts mission to inspire students to be ethically responsible professionals, with an understanding of sustainable and social responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Significant professional experience in fashion merchandising
  • Ability to teach effectively

Essential Functions:

  • Teach undergraduate courses from introductory to advanced levels of circular fashion and responsible business practices such as sustainability, social justice, and diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry.
  • Emphasize the importance of circular fashion in the greater global industry, and how these skills may be incorporated into community-based learning opportunities.
  • Mentor senior capstone thesis projects and student scholarship competitions.
  • Meet with students outside of class time for additional instruction as appropriate.
  • Engage in a variety of service duties, including school and college committee service, curriculum development and assessment, admissions, and community/industry outreach.
  • Engage in academic advising.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or terminal degree in Fashion Merchandising or related discipline
  • Three or more years of teaching at the collegiate level with evidence of effective teaching.
  • Experience with trend forecasting and product life management software.
  • The ability to demonstrate a strong analytical and creative skill set, deep knowledge of the latest disruptions within the fashion industry, and the ability to teach and critique student work based on standards of the fashion industry.
  • Deep collaborative spirit to work with other department faculty on cross-pollination of design and merchandising coursework, curriculum evolution and new interdisciplinary approaches to program initiatives.

Advancing candidates may be asked to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in the form of sample syllabi and assignments, a teaching Statement, a diversity and inclusion statement, and other materials.
