Day in a Life:

The Texas A&M University Counseling Center is looking for a Professional Counselor II/ Clinical Care Coordinator to serve as a member of our staff.  This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume dynamic environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Opportunities to Contribute:

Clinical Case Management: 40%

  • Provide clinical case management services by meeting with and assisting students and families in locating resources to address basic and mental health needs (e.g., financial, community therapists, food insecurity, healthcare access, etc.) and assisting them with arranging referrals and navigating the referral process with appropriate follow-up.
  • Provide intensive case management and transition services (‘bridge care’) for students who periodically need additional services to address risk as well as students transitioning to community providers or specialists.  Provide wrap-around support and contacts to ensure successful connections to referrals and continuity of care.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other state and national clinical case managers through participation in case manager association and list serv.
  • Maintain licensure and seek continuing education opportunities relevant to the position.
  • Serve on various committees and task forces as assigned.

Triage/Crisis Intervention: 35%

  • Provide triage counselor-on-duty services. Conduct client screenings and psychosocial and environmental assessment of clients, risk assessment and management. Participate in weekly case conferences and informal case consultation to coordinate client care.
  • Assist clinical staff in psychiatric hospitalization of students.  Consult with faculty, staff, students, and family members, who are concerned about a student.  Consult with hospital and referring clinical staff regarding discharge planning post-hospitalization.

Psychiatry Services Coordination:15%

  • Provide coordination of psychiatry services by managing psychiatry appointment schedule, maintaining psychiatry caseload database, verifying psychiatry services compliance, updating psychiatry forms as needed, communicating psychiatry services updates to staff, maintaining referral information for graduating/non-returning
    students, and facilitating timely discharges through appropriate documentation and planning.
  • Consult with contracted psychiatrist to address prescription related questions from clients.
  • Provide psychiatry related psychoeducation for students, faculty, and staff as needed.

Community Referral Coordination:10%

  • Serve as university and community resources liaison and coordinator by establishing and maintaining relationships with key community referral sources (e.g., community and private mental health providers, community services and hospitals, etc.).
  • Maintain and update referral and resource database(s) to maintain knowledge of parameters affecting referral options such as sliding fee options, wait times, insurances, intake procedures, etc. to share with clinical staff and campus partners as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or psychology.
  • Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.
  • Two (2) years or more (post-graduate) experience in social work, counseling, or other mental health agency setting.
  • Post-licensure experience providing direct clinical case management services, crisis services, triage, care coordination, and referrals to adolescents and adults.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills; experience and ability to appropriately assess and treat a wide variety of clinical conditions and accurately assess risk of harm to self and/or others based on clinical evaluation and/or collateral report.
  • Training and post-licensure experience in brief therapy and crisis intervention with adults in an outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs of individuals from a variety of racial/ethnic groups and intersectionalities, and demonstrated commitment to facilitating the personal and educational goals of a multicultural population.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements for case managers in a counseling center agency.
  • Administrative and technological experience with Electronic Health Records and case management tracking system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment and fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to be able to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment, including strong planning and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years (post-graduate) experience in social work, counseling, or other mental health agency.
  • Case management experience in college/university mental health setting.
  • Advanced training and experience in crisis intervention.
  • Clinical experience in a mental health setting providing trauma responsive services to ethnically, socioeconomically, and other diverse populations with severe mental illness.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to master’s level counseling and psychology trainees utilizing a multiculturally competent approach.

Pay Range

  • $55,000 – $62,900 annually
