The Bachelor of Music Therapy program invites qualified MTA applicants to consider the Private Music Instruction (PMI) appointment starting in September 2024. The students in the program take a set list of classroom courses and two PMI courses each semester. This PMI position would be ongoing, with about 6 hours of teaching for 10 weeks in both the Fall (September to December) and Spring (January to April) semesters.

The program faculty are a dedicated and experienced group of professionals who share a passion for music therapy. PMI is a key part of our curriculum, where students learn and apply their musicianship in a music therapy context.

What you’ll doThe successful candidate will be responsible for teaching guitar in individual, in-person lessons, using established Private Music Instruction (PMI) curriculum, evaluate and grade students at the end of each semester, update course outlines, and attend program faculty meetings.

What you’ll bringRequired Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy;
  • MTA – Accreditation with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists;
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience in music therapy (post-internship);
  • Excellent guitar musicianship;
  • Excellent self-awareness skills due to the transference nature of the students in an individual lesson format; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills.

Preference for the following:

  • Music therapy experience with a variety of populations; and
  • Guitar teaching experience, particularly at the college or university level.
