Under direction, the incumbent performs the highest level of surgical technologist duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. In addition to performing the duties of the Sr Surgical Tech, the incumbent serves in a lead/subject matter expert capacity providing support to all specialty surgical areas within Perioperative Services. Duties include verification of specialty equipment and inventory, contacting surgeons concerning equipment and supply needs for complex cases, communicating with related buyers, vendors, and other staff concerning their service, contacting surgical supply companies and their vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment, and providing continuing education in-service to staff.

Principal Tech will serve as a liaison between the different departments in Peri-Op Services including SPD in the surgical tech capacity and assist leadership team in identifying gaps in performance, opportunities for standardization/streamlining operations, and LEAN concept implementation. Principal Tech will assist with 5S of space as well as be a leader in transformational LEAN Healthcare In the Operating Room. Assists department leadership with service related activities and identifying opportunities to streamline the operations relative to the surgical tech role. Follows and assists with processes to ensure AORN guidelines are implemented and followed. Functions as a preceptor, mentor and resource to new staff and other scrub personnel. Performs other related duties as required.

This position is for a 8 hour variable start shift M-F from 0530-2300 depending on Department Needs. Weekend and Call Rotations Requirements.

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician training program.

• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

• Four (4) years of Surgical Tech experience in an Acute/Perioperative Services/Hospital setting with experience in all service lines in the Hillcrest OR.

• Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures.

• Knowledge of a wide variety of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.

• Excellent interpersonal skills in customer service, problem-solving, and taking initiative.

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• NBSTSA certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST).

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
