Principal Railroad & Bulk Logisitics Engineer


The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Railroad and Bulk Logistics Engineer, are to:

  • Participate as a project team member and serve as lead mechanical engineer in the design, specification development, inspection and quality assurance of new and existing rail equipment, isotanks, linings, etc.;
  • Participate in inspections of rail vehicle and infrastructure upgrade activities;
  • Participate in technical working sessions to address findings from laboratory testing of commodities vs soft goods, linings and metals;
  • Inspect and review lining application data and documentation;
  • Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits;
  • Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/nonconformances, and areas of concern;
  • Assist with the conduct of forensic investigations of failed components and equipment and reporting findings;
  • Lead development of technical specifications for mechanical rail equipment and coatings/linings;
  • Presentation and communication of project related tasks to peers, bulk logistics leaders, group leadership, senior engineering and business leadership;
  • Additional duties may include providing ongoing support to bulk logistics operations through mechanical and equipment assessments and other troubleshooting support for railcars, isotanks, and other bulk logistics transport containers as needed.

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or comparable Technology degree;
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical and rail engineering;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Collaborative team player capable of working well with people across functions and all hierarchies internally and externally, including leadership;
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills such as communication, listening, verbal and assertiveness with ability to influence and lead;
  • Results driven with ability to manage ambiguity;
  • Valid Drivers’ License and eligibility to drive a company car or pooled vehicle (driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers and MVR will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening).


  • 10 years of engineering experience with a B.S. or 7 years of experience with a M.S.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $105,300 to $158,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
